🌷 2026 Spring Equinox 24-hour Readathon

 Mickey’s Home Post :books:

Hi, everyone! This’ll be my first time participating in a 24-hour readathon. I’m super excited! I recently picked up studying Japanese again (after a 6 year gap, woof), and reading every day has been one of my goals throughout my studies. I’m ready to push myself extra hard this Saturday!

With that said, I have two main goals:

  1. Read for at least one hour… without using a dictionary… audibly.
  2. Read, however I like, for at least 5 hours.

Regarding goal 1, I’m challenging myself to pick up the pace! …ish! Up until this point, I have exclusively read my material one way, which is by taking sentences apart and translating them. I am an ultra noob, so reading is painstakingly slow as I find new vocabulary, learn new grammar points, and praise the gods that created Mokuro Reader and Yomitan. This goal provides a means for me to practice sounding things out and speaking!

Goal 2 exists because I will eventually get sick and tired of goal 1. Ya girl wants to actually understand everything she’s reading, you know?

Anyways, I’m sure you’re all begging to know… “Mickey, what are you going to be reading?” Well, my cherished peer, I have 3 things in mind.

  1. S-level graded readers off of Tadoku.org (most likely what I’ll read for goal 1)
  2. にゃんにゃん探偵団2 - a book club book
  3. ギャルと恐竜 1 - a book club manga

Reading books/manga that the Absolute Beginner’s Book Club has gone over has been incredibly helpful as I study. Would highly recommend if you’re new like me and have questions that need answering as you read! :purple_heart:
