🌊 🐳 サバイバル・ゲーム 太平洋を泳ぎぬけ - Escape from the Pacific Ocean! [adventuring!]

scene 10

Oh oh strike 1 and we only have 2!

decision

I agree, the info made the whole fishing experience sound pretty dangerous and difficult. Plus, it could be tough to prepare the fish in our raft?

Maybe if we don’t fish we’ll have a closer look at other things we could do like fire up a radio or something!

if we could fire up a radio we could fire up a turtle for soup also
turtle ramen? hmmmm

don’t worry we have a little hand pump too if we need to deal with small leaks

I’m still wondering though why we have fishing line but no rod… seems super weird …
at least a ronco (as seen on tv) something small should be there you’d think…
(yes this is a real product)

then no cuts and can get some delicious 河豚

I must have completely skipped over the no fishing rod bit I was just like YEAH FISHING and then got excited wondering about how we’d eat it with all the info page 32 was talking about, but then I read everyone else’s comments and it would indeed be hard to fish without a rod

Thanks for sticking out, because I missed it… Read 10 AFTER 31, 32… Very not used to the flow etc of this series, yet.. I’ll go slowly through the older weeks from the start at some point… Managed to get myself killed straight off the bat  :joy:

No, I started where you were… Before you all finish… I’ll go back and fill gaps later. And probably die many times

Welcome to Stage F of :ocean: :spouting_whale: 太平洋を泳ぎぬけ - Escape from the Pacific Ocean!

Oh no! After the turtle repeatedly hits the bottom of the boat we hear a whooshing sound - the boat was punctured and the air escapes. But luckily the raft is double layered and the second layer autoinflates.

Well, we make ourselves comfortable, sitting on a blanket and get some fresh clothes on. What to do? We entertain the thought of fishing but it sounds like a big hassle and possibly dangerous. Maybe we should find something else …:club_suit:?

I read this in a rush so I would still be able to participate this week so I’ve probably missed some vital information like last time BUT

I say yolo let’s try catch the seagull if we can’t do fishing anyway

decision

So we’re just gonna like… catch and wring some sea bird’s neck and… pluck it and eat it raw? This sounds like a terrible idea.. there has to be something better to eat, right? Right??

I am discouraged by the fact that we didn’t get a whole section on how to dress a bird.. like, it feels like the book is just hand waving that away in a way that makes me feel like we should eat this bird…

Raw? RAW bird? A bird that lives in the ocean and eats who-knows-what? No, no, no. There has to be something better out there to eat. Maybe if we can start a fire somehow later, then we can cook and eat a bird. But eating a raw bird? Bad idea.

These are the decisions where I’m like, yes, adult skills matter  take that children’s book. We can survive a month without food, or, at least more then a couple weeks. I say be patient.

:rofl::joy::rofl::joy: critical ocean survival skills

Quite, and that fire…

What I'm imagining

 epic

I imagine trying to catch the bird, falling in the water in the process. Meanwhile, the bird goes in the raft, we get back in the raft just before the shark comes back to eat us. The bird flaps around the raft until we wring its neck. Now we’re wet and there is bird poo all over the inside of the raft. Angry and disappointed, we start a fire in the raft to cook the bird. Raft melts. Game over :sweat_droplets:

I have to choose 19, because I only just finally got around to starting this…
But I understand if you all want to go to 41. No hard feelings. :face_holding_back_tears:

This certainly is better to hear the comments and ideas of others, rather than to simply read alone and flip around the book!

Edit later: now I’ve read everyone else’s, and people are discussing trying to catch the seabird as food! I heard that you should feel good that land is nearby if you have a seabird on your boat. So I wouldn’t try to eat it, but see where it came from/goes to… And also ewww on raw bird meat…

Yeah, I think I’m on team “how exactly are we supposed to light a fire on this boat?”. Because there’s no way it’s a good idea to eat the bird raw.

I briefly fell off the raft, but don’t worry I’m a strong swimmer and I’m back! :person_swimming:

decision

Hmmmm, this is a tough one. With the way the last part of the scene is worded like ‘well if you don’t eat the bird you’ll become weak and lose all your energy…and die…’ it makes it sound like we should catch the bird. But how are we supposed to cook the bird? I think we should have caught some fish, honestly :joy: Maybe if we don’t catch the bird, we can follow it to land?

Welcome to Stage G of :ocean: :spouting_whale: 太平洋を泳ぎぬけ - Escape from the Pacific Ocean!

Well well, we’ve had some detours! Shark sightings :shark: and despite that several party members went off swimming or snorkeling :goggles:

But one thing hasn’t changed - as far as we can see is water and sky :telescope: but what hoo! A bird lands on the raft! Hunger is still setting in and we dream of wrangling the bird and somehow eating it.. somehow… the more we talk about it, the more difficult this surviving in a raft is starting to look

Let’s sit tight, card game anyone? And please, get out of the water! Come back and join the safety of the crew
