青い傷 what does it mean?

青い傷

I’ve tried doing a google search and besides a direct translation of “blue wound”, does it have some special meaning or is it some idiom? (young wound?) I’ve seen some book titles use this same combination of words so it seems like a common or special phrase.

My searching suggests it means “bruise.” Looks like there are a variety of words for bruise based to some degree on location.

My girlfriend says it’s some kind of metaphorical wording and she’s never heard someone say that.

青あざ does mean bruise, and is a common word.

Thanks for the interesting question! A friend of mine just enlightened me on this subject! 青い傷 is apparently just a less used, sort of umbrella expression for the dialectal words for bruise. 青あざ is the standard term, 青たん is used more in Hyougo and Hiroshima, and 青じ is found up in Touhoku around Yamaguchi and Akita (where he is from).

青い傷 also apparently has a particular meaning in the BDSM niche, though I’m not particularly interested in those details and will leave that up to any curious souls to research.

In french, “un bleu” (literally “a blue”) is a common name for hematomas.
