So, the chapter’s title is a reference to the plot of 瞼の母, a kabuki play which debuted in 1931 and has since been adapted into films about fifty-seven times - IMDB plot summary for the 1962 adaptation is “A wandering gambler searches for his mother, who abandoned him when he was just a child.” The Viz translation went with a different cultural reference, and called it “The Prodigal Father Returns”, which is not quite equivalent, but I can see where they’re coming from.

This manga is starting to adopt the Game of Thrones school of long-distance character travel by going “once you’ve established how long it takes, you don’t need to show it again the second time”. The rest of them also travelled to Reole within the chapter, but at least there were a few scenes of other people in between.
I mean, she was kinda looking for any excuse to go back and help anyway.

I thought this chapter seemed to be going on for a long while. When I hit the end of the volume, I realised I’d accidentally read two chapters - there’s no break or marker in between. The end of this week’s reading is at this panel:
Today I noticed for the first time while reading next week’s chapter that the big hunk of hair that hangs across Olivier Armstrong’s face has the same curl at the end that the forelocks of the rest of her family have.
Yup, I overshot a bit too! Realised before reaching the end, but I only have about half a chapter to read next week now, so I’m tempted to just finish it…
