Page 19, the English version replaced the bubble reading 虎穴に入らずんば虎子を得ず with “They say you should keep your friends close, but your enemies closer”, but those are not equivalent proverbs, and it also required them to rewrite all of the tiger references over the rest of the page. Why not just translate it as-is? The meaning is apparent enough.
Been waiting a long time to see this scene between Mustang and Hawkeye. It was absolutely fascinating to read in the English version, where they have a conversation about absolutely nothing, and then Mustang walks away and deciphers a message from it, and I’ve been wanting to see how it works in Japanese too. I can’t imagine how either of them manage to have a conversation while also remembering their place in the message they’re trying to convey or receive. Interesting, the English version tweaked some of the names (replacing シュガー with “Susan”, for example) to insert an “A” after the “IS”, and rewrote Mustang’s note on the final page accordingly, though the partial view on page 28 still says “BLADLEY”.
The name the original Homunculus tries to give 23 in the dream/flashback is “Theophrastus Bombast von Hohenheim”, which is Paracelsus’ full name.
I think if they used “you will not get the tiger cub without entering the tiger’s den” translation, the readers wouldn’t have got what’s with the tigers suddenly. But they could’ve added a small note saying that it’s a proverb

This chapter quite neatly answers a whole bunch of questions from the series’ backstory that have been lurking around for a while. The legend of how Xerxes was wiped out in a single night. The Sage from the East who taught alchemy to Amestris, and the sage from the west who taught alchemy to Xing. Why Ed and Al('s body) specifically have golden hair and eyes (in contrast to Winry’s regular old blonde), though that one’s a bit tricky to spot in black-and-white.
I guess Selim is specifically the first 人造人間, whereas the dwarf in the flask was フラスコの中の小人. Or something.

I didn’t get at first what country Hohenheim was in, and from the thin clothes on people somehow thought that it was Ishval And I think I missed the piece about sages, I have to reread the chapter
Also what are the plans for Amestris? To get more homunculi? To make them stronger? Is their Father ill (with all these tubes), and they want to cure him?
I think at this point it is a solid guess that 人柱 are pillows for the 錬成陣. Do they have to be strong alchemists? We have only 7,5 volumes to find out!
Page, um, 87, I think, first panel, ラサ―ヤナ is Rasayana. In the second panel, アウレリアン sounds like Aurelian, though it’s perhaps intended resemble “aurum”, the Latin name for gold (which is the reason why the chemical symbol is Au).
Fourth panel of the same page, 真人 is usually read as either しんじん or まひと, so I’m curious as to whether Mei’s しんひと pronunciation is supposed to reference something. Though then she expands it to 真の人 in the following panel. Maybe it’s just her less-than-perfect grasp of the Amestrian language.
Following page, maybe I jumped the gun last week with my comment about Ed and Al’s air and eyes, heh.

That cliffhanger, though. Things do not look good for the Homestar Runner. I mean, Fullmetal Alchemist.
