In an alchemical ritual gone wrong, Edward Elric lost his arm and his leg, and his brother Alphonse became nothing but a soul in a suit of armor. Equipped with mechanical “auto-mail” limbs, Edward becomes a state alchemist, seeking the one thing that can restore his and his brother’s bodies…the legendary Philosopher’s Stone.
I got behind because I hadn’t realised that the club had start until @simias reminded me in the home thread. I am yet to start volume 2, but I intend to catch up and keep reading.
We could have a one month break if people still want to continue together but need time to catch up. With so many book clubs around, a longer break would benefit me too
We could also turn this into an informal book club… one thread for each volume, but without a schedule. People can comment on the volume or chapters whenever they want.
I’d be fine with any of the options. While I do want to continue reading, I’m also involved in a lot of book clubs simultaneously, and I noticed that I tend to not really participate in discussion when this is the case. I wouldn’t mind taking a longer break or reading in an informal schedule, or just continuing on my own if people just decide to drop it
I have a suspicion that the longer the break the bigger the amount of clubs people pick up meantime
I’d like to continue on a schedule and have no preference on pace.
Maybe we should slow down to let people catch up and breathe a little. We have cliffhangers at the end of chapters anyway.
I’d have nothing against that, but I personally read one chapter at a time. So if we only read a portion of a chapter in a given week, I would either read ahead or read that part next week to have the full chapter, meaning I am technically behind
Would anyone benefit from a slower pace? I have not considered that an option so far, but maybe someone wants to discuss it.
Personally while it does take me a while to read even just one chapter, I’m happy with one a week since its an easier cutoff point. I’d say one or two week break might be nice for catching up without it being too long?
We have the same amount of people that want a one week break as we have for a longer break. I’ll say we continue on the 26th of October, so we have a 2 week break. That should give people enough time to catch up
Yeah with only four chapters per volume we go fast. I actually expected that we would start the next one next week since this week is quite light but I’m absolutely fine with an additional break, no rush.
