銭天堂 | Week 11 Discussion

Oh, I remember something like that, but maybe in this example I found its more clear?
(I found this from the internet, so its probably not from zenitendou)

ふしぎだなと思いました。 と、 自然に計算ができるから、そろばんってすごいなと思いました。

It looks like that came from this thread, which was the poster’s transcription of a conversation between some children that he said were possibly not native (I didn’t watch the actual video). The replies stated that they thought the child was trying to say あと or there was a transcription error, so I’m not sure that’s the best example.

Found another example, page 112 line 5 of zenitendou:
おかみと美鈴は、なにやり楽しげに話していた。、美鈴がおかみを椅子にすわらせ、手早く白い髪を結いはじめた。

This is what I mean, I think here it means “So” or “Then” but im not sure if its an abbreviation of something or just normal.

I always interpreted this as being quite like “and so”. I feel it’s similar to when と gets used as a conditional, so like 朝ごはんを食べると、なにかあった。- but you don’t explicitly state the what the condition is, or rather it’s implied that the whole context provided by the previous sentence section is the thing that happens first. “And so…”

“The ranch was sold, and the family moved away to the city. And so, the house fell into disrepair.” That kind of thing, as a totally random example.
