Discussion Guidelines

Everybody should feel free to post and ask questions–it’s what makes book clubs fun! But please do not post until you are familiar with Spoiler Courtesy!

Spoiler Courtesy

Please follow these rules to avoid inadvertent ネタバレ. If you’re unsure whether something should have a spoiler tag, err on the side of using one.

  1. Any potential spoiler for the current week’s reading need only be covered by a spoiler tag. Predictions and conjecture made by somebody who has not read ahead still falls into this category.
  2. Any potential spoilers for external sources need to be covered by a spoiler tag and include a label (outside of the spoiler tag) of what might be spoiled. These include but are not limited to: other book club picks, other books, games, movies, anime, etc. I recommend also tagging the severity of the spoiler (for example, I may still look at minor spoilers for something that I don’t intend to read soon).
  3. Any information from later in the book than the current week’s reading (including trigger warnings that haven’t yet manifested) needs to be hidden by spoiler tags and labeled as coming from later sections.
Instructions for Spoiler Tags

Click the cog above the text box and use either the “Hide Details” or “Blur Spoiler” options. The text which says “This text will be hidden” should be replaced with what you are wishing to write. In the case of “Hide Details”, the section in the brackets that is labelled “Summary” can be replaced with whatever you like also (i.e, [details=”Chapter 1, Pg. 1”]).

Hide Details results in the dropdown box like below:

Example

This is an example of the “Hide Details” option.

The “Blur Spoiler” option will simply blur the text it surrounds.

Posting Advice
  • When asking for help, please mention the page number, and check before posting that your question hasn’t already been asked. As the threads get longer, it becomes more convenient to use the Search function, which is located in the upper right corner of the forum. It is the magnifying glass which is near your profile picture! The best way to search is usually to type part of the sentence you are confused about, and select “in this topic”. This will show you all posts within the current thread which has that string of text.

  • Be sure to join the conversation! It’s fun, and it’s what keeps these book clubs lively! There’s no such thing as a stupid question! We are all learning here, and if the question has crossed your mind, there’s a very good chance it has crossed somebody else’s also! Asking and answering questions is a great learning opportunity for everyone involved, so never hesitate to do so!

Gasp, there’s no omake panel. What am I supposed to comment on this week? Oh wait, there it is. It’s after the next chapter’s title page.

So, these two have given names - they’re written on the name plate outside the dorm room. Nishikawa’s is 一 (はじめ), and Beppu’s is 太郎 (たろう). Also, we’ve got a new character this week, Nakajima-sensei, whose given name doesn’t seem to be specified here, but it’s 美雪 (よしゆき).

(Also a whole bunch of other characters introduced but not yet named. Idly wondering what’s the cutoff level for how much characters should be involved in the plot before they get added to the list of characters… :stuck_out_tongue:)

Oops I didn’t see the name plate! Thanks for letting me know, I’ll add them now

Lol yeah I’m not sure at what point we add characters to the list. Seems like everyone that introduced themselves in Ch 1 are all showing up a lot, not sure about future characters though. I should probably go back and see how previous clubs have done it, ngl I’ve never paid attention to the character lists

I’m a bit behind on reading (still need to finish Ch 2), do we think Nakajima should be added?

Chapter 3

So MC is still settling in in his new life at the university and being shocked at all the new things / having trouble adjusting. Makes me wonder, how long the “new life effect” is going to last and what will be the humor about after that? Seeing as this series has 15 volumes.
I don’t remember if they said anytime at the beginning around how many years they will be living / studying there?

Chapter 3

High school.

Three years, same as any Japanese high school.

Most of the series (99 chapters from a total of 131) focuses on his first year, though, which is the one thing that mildly disappoints me about it. Otherwise it’s much fun overall. < Not really a spoiler, but it’s about general story pacing, so I’ve hidden it in case people don’t want to know.

Ooh, definitely thought they were older, oops.

Ch.3 omake (spoiler?)

There is 倶知安(くっちゃん) there, and I think mid school there is read 西陵(せいりょう) (but it can also be read さいりょう somewhere else?)

I seriously thought this guy has no first name.

Is MC going to a high rank uni? But he has to live in high first, I guess.

No spoilers. That’s in the next chapter. :stuck_out_tongue:
