Wanikani claims the definition for 要項 [ようこう] to be main points or important points, but that doesn’t match the example sentence “詳細については、添付の募集要項をご確認くださいませ For more details, please see the applicant guidelines attached”. When I tried to find a this word in a Japanese dictionary the definition I found is あるスピーチまたは文学的作品の中心的意味または主題, which I believe would mean, the focus of a work or piece of literature. So what would be an accurate translation for the word as “important points” clearly is not.
I found this.
That actually gives the same exact kind of usage example as WK.
In any case, I don’t see why it couldn’t be both be for literature and non-literature. But theirs is clearly not wrong and it could be translated as important points either way.
Found this on ALC:
guidelines for applicants
And this from Goo:
Either way, just think about it; what are the “essential points” of a “recruitment”?
