I’ll have to try to remember that to “incur someone’s wrath” is to “buy their grudge” …

Chapter 93: We are finally back to the present. So if I read this right, I think we will somehow get マハト to feel human feelings so that he can envision himself de-golding ヴァイゼ and then he will feel remorse for his misdeed and get done in by the bracelet or something like that

Fyrember chapter 93 reply

Have been catching up on this manga the last few days. Long complicated backstory - it lent it self nicely to reading the chapters close together trying to keep all the details in mind, but then I forgot too much of the end of volume 9 already!

Two important things I think are going on to reply to your question. Firstly, while Mahato is able to reverse the gold magic on himself (as seen in this chapter) and I think also on his cloak, he is unable to reverse the curse on the town. This is explained as being because magic involves visualisation, and Mahato does not understand humans well enough to visualise their restoration. So I agree, perhaps if Mahato can be made to understand humans better, he could perhaps be able to reverse the curse.

Secondly, we thought the bracelet was broken, which was why Mahato was able to curse the town in the first place. But when Lernen and his companion got close to him, they found the bracelet was working correctly. The commands given when the bracelet were put on (pages 123-124 in volume 9 - I’m going to copy the images below for reference) were that Mahato would serve the city, commit no malicious act towards its people and their descendants, and if he felt the slightest malice towards the people would end his own life. So I don’t know about remorse - but if he is able to experience malice that could certainly have significant implications.

EDIT - one more note, just realised the demon who appears at the end of the chapter is the one from the start of this volume who taught Mahato about human emotions, and how humans and demons look similar but have separate evolutionary pathways.

Chapter 94

This chapter was enjoyable, getting back to our main characters and their quirky interactions (angry braids was my favourite moment). And a race between Frieren and Solitar who both have analyses to make that will take 2 months. In the end Solitar beat Frieren by two days - excited to see what happens next, feels like the end of this arc is drawing near!

was someone in the sahara :zebra: petting :snake: the animals :rhinoceros:

yeah magically I am a chapter ahead now… woo hoo!!!

Chapters 95 and 96

I love that all the backstory we’ve worked through is now culminating in some epic battling! Stark and Fern look in some serious trouble but great watching them work together, and Solitar is obviously impressed too.

It feels like cometh the hour, cometh the man for Denken, perhaps his whole life working up to this moment. I thought he’d vanquished Mahato but he seems ready to break out of that gold pretty quickly, and Denken seems to have anticipated that. I’m not sure what his plan is, as I understand the magic he just used uses up a huge amount of mana, so if it’s not a decisive blow he’s potentially in trouble. I like how it tied back to the end of the first class mage exam, and Denken being offered to acquire one piece of magic from Serie.
