Yeah, it seems less like a test and more like a competition, and there definitely seems to be an element of luck in how it plays out for individuals. I’m imagining if this was JLPT and some people had to read a passage from Doraemon while others had to read Murakami…

Yeah that was a tough chapter
As far as I understood from a previous chapter, ゼンゼ set the task to reach the innermost part of the dungeon knowing that no one had done it (otherwise the dungeon would have been mapped and it’s not). She thought they would have to work together for anyone to achieve it or none would pass. So the test is not controlled to be fair, ie the dungeon monster lord / whatever certainly isn’t playing along to create an even playing field. Maybe it’s just randomly making spectors of whoever is there. At least, that’s my understanding! I guess Denken will be annoyed that he was right all along, they should have stuck together!

You think so? somehow i feel like it takes a little bit longer to learn much about a an elf thats more than 1000 years old. Besides that i feel like Frieren isnt the most open character there is, i feel like she must be hiding a lot. Ferns courage is quite admirable.

Fern’s been hanging out with Frieren every single day since she was nine years old. Frieren taught her everything she knows. She may not know everything about Frieren, but she sure knows more than someone who met ler last week.

Sorry to keep you waiting, but finally caught up on the book club today ^^
I read chapters 50-52 and though storywise they’ve been a bit of a setup, I noticed that there were a decent few words that I wanted to review after finishing the chapters, so I divided them into chapters

Yeah I didn’t expect them to defeat copyfrieren that easily. Also, I’m pretty sure either ラヴィーネ or リヒター would probably be killed in that surprise attack, that was really close to piercing their heart or lungs

So, one more comment on the last chapter: The question has occasionally popped up in this discussion as to whether or not we’ve seen Frieren using her full power. In this chapter we see her pull out another stop, but something about the delivery of her “Whew, Fern, I haven’t had to use that spell slot in forever” line gives me the impression that we’re still not quite there yet.

this whole chapter sets up the protagonist to come in the very final page and steal the show, unaware of everything Fern was just too precious xddd
I imagine the next week is a break and then we’re back to Volume 7, right? I’ll probably take it with myself for the September trip, hoping to read it on a week by week basis as well ^^
