葬送のフリーレン ・Frieren 🧝‍♂️ Volume 3

Summary

I think this is from the section where Stark is remembering his training from Eizen. The lesson is to make sure you keep getting back up. So - no matter how beat up you are, the only think is to make sure you don’t collapse. As long as you keep getting back up you are still in the fight.

That’s a good thought! There’s definitely some dragon ball vibes here. They keep underestimating their foe, mainly because they are good at suppressing their chi.

Check out this comment where I took a stab. Nice idea on the other one

Seems like you thought about erfassen as well x). I checked the link and it would seem like most, if not all magic spell words, don’t really make much sense ¯_(ツ)_/¯ .

Oh, I didn’t see you had thought of erfassen. No, they don’t make complete sense. They feel like they were chosen more as inspiration from a Japanese keyword to German through a dictionary, but not with a real understanding of the German word. I feel like knowing German is rather a disadvantage to figuring them out :joy:

It’s been quite a long story arc, it was quite enjoyable having a down week where nothing really happened. As ever enjoyed the pages with no words and little snapshots of their celebrations around town.

I like how Frieren is no longer a registered mage as it’s been 50+ years since the supervising authority was changed and she hadn’t realised!

I’m sure they have some tricks up their sleeves, otherwise they would seem in a fairly tight spot trapped in that snow!

Lmao poor Stark

and again

I wonder if Frieren does the mage exam if she’ll scrape by on some nonsense spells or release just enough power to have some cool moments but nothing huge since she hides her mana. I like the first idea better

I enjoyed the scenes in there, too. I like how Frieren is reading in most of them

Stark’s reaction to Frieren not knowing about the mage qualification was funny, like “man even I know about it”

nice light-hearted atmospheric chapter. Although lots of complex words I’ve not come across (or I just keep forgetting them)

Oops fell behind and missed your responses! I had somehow missed that frieren glossary when it was originally posted but it’s super useful. Thanks!

Chapter 24

Lmaooo I wasn’t ready for that

Ooo lore

Interesting meeting another elf, I expected any other elves to be stereotypical lord of the rings type elves but that guy is fun too. Also I half expected them to be like hey we don’t have a priest on our quest you should join us but alas

Chapter 24

Me too! I thought he seemed like a good fit to be the fourth member of the gang. As far as I can remember their final destination is also オレオール - so hopefully we’re going to meet him again.

Loved this cold chapter, matched nicely with our first snowfall of the season here. I also liked the horned snowman Stark is building on the opening page.

The montage/passing of time panels mid chapter were fun as ever. I wasn’t sure what the girls are doing in the background here. I half wondered if they were levitating Kraft and Stark wasn’t really bearing his weight for the press ups!

One more thing - I liked the word 氷漬け - being frozen in ice, or literally being pickled in ice!

I’m about halfway through Chapter 22, and I am feeling emotions that I don’t always have names for.

Thoughts

If Flamme only taught Frieren battle magic for the sake of revenge, and nowadays she collects random statue polishing magic, is this her attempt at learning non-violent magic to help her remember why she used to love it? If so that’s really sad and sweet. (Bittersweet, this word exists.)

Her family died when she was really young and she had to grow up too fast as a kid, and now she is an adult and trying to access her inner child again. Or maybe I am reading too much into things.

It’s also sad that Flamme doesn’t regret making Frieren lose her love of magic. Well, it seems the world was a dangerous place then that Frieren wouldn’t have had a choice either way, so I won’t put that completely on Flamme’s shoulders.

And Flamme taught her the magic flower field spell? That retroactively makes the moon-thingy-flower chapter feel all the more… something. Emotions are difficult, okay?

That’s a neat take, I hadn’t really connected Frieren collecting whimsical magic as a way of keeping up the fun and offsetting all the trouble she has to take to hide her true power all the time

You’re right that one is bittersweet too. Without Flamme’s trick Frieren might enjoy magic more but wouldn’t have survived

To someone who filled in vocab for ch. 24 on ch.25’s sheet as well: you did well! Community me at least appreciate your efforts! (And I’m sad it has to be erased. I copied some words to the right sheet though).

This was a nicely rounded chapter. I like the fake sword flash back at the start, leading onto the fake hero scene. Also some fun monster slaying.

Lmao cute Frieren but poor Fern having to carry you through that

Poor thingy doodle again (I forget his name)

STARK, thank you Frieren

Good chapter  Though I was kind of expecting Stark to pull the sword but oh well, maybe they’ll come back for it one day.

That reminds me, in this panel do we think えっち is this definition - indecent, lewd, sexy, dirty, obscene? She thinks Stark is being lewd offering to take over having Frieren’s legs wrapped around him?

Yeah I think it is
