It’s the 19th in Japan too and I was able to read the first 15 pages at work lol. Good going so far! It was useful/nice knowing the word 竜(りゅう、dragon) from ルリドラゴン, also I think ツノ came up too haha. Anyway, happy reading everyone!
You’ll all know 生臭坊主 by heart soon enough too
Page 3 is:

For page 10, it’s most of the words on the page.

The discussion thread for Volume 1 is up!
See you there everyone!
In a bit of topical relevance, I got today’s newsletter from SCRAP, a Japanese escape-room-slash-puzzle-game company, and they’ve got a Frieren game now. Unfortunately it’s an in-person thing rather than a play-at-home box like many of their other games, but perhaps there’s someone in Japan who might be interested.
How fun, nice tip! I came across SCRAP when I was looking for escape books and they look so fun. I’m just going to get my kanji to a better level first…
I’ve done their Tokyo Metro Underground Mysteries three times - once all in Japanese - and their Yuru Camp game, also in Japanese. All very fun. But challenging doing it in Japanese.
Just found this, if anyone, like me, plans on watching the anime after reading as we go (I’ve been waiting to watch until now):
https://www.reddit.com/r/Frieren/comments/16vplj3/manga_chapters_adapted_in_the_anime/
Also, for anyone who has already watched the anime, let me know if you disagree with this mapping, because I don’t want to spoil the reading !
That’s a smart play, I’m really trying to avoid another big burnout. Thanks!
Thanks for the recommendation! I’ve never heart of kitsun until now so I’ll give it a look. The gamefication has been a big reason why wanikani is sticking around. Thanks
that’s great, thanks! I’ll link that in the home post unless someone chimes in that it’s not correct. But since they went to all the trouble of putting in page numbers, I’m guessing it’s at least mostly accurate!
Well, at least so far as volume one goes, it’s accurate. Can’t be bothered digging up the rest of my volumes to check at the moment, but I don’t really see it diverging.
And we’re live with Week 2!
For anyone who was considering joining, but wasn’t certain whether you want to spend the cash, volume one’s time-limited free availability has extended to 5/13 (Japan time):
Wow that is a well-timed deal!
Not the first time it’s happened. I wonder if someone from Kadokawa or Bookwalker checks on book clubs
The entire Japanese publishing industry does - there’s a strong correlation between books being picked for a book club, and the same book subsequently getting a new print run in Japan.
We are live for Week 3!
It’s so easy to keep up with this book club because I just keep reading ahead.
STOP PULLING ON MY HEART STRINGS LIKE THIS, I WAS NOT PREPARED
Week 4 is live - we’re starting Ch 2 now!
