苺 radical combination

the bottom part of 苺 is clearly 母, right? so shouldn’t the radical combination be 艹 + 毋 ? I should mention that it’s currently in as 艹 + 日 + 丶.

I think it’s because there’s a vertical line in the window radical, while in the kanji you’ve provided there is no vertical line running down through the sun radical.

right, but the combination for 母 itself is just considered in WK as 毋 . It’s worth noting that 毋 is often just a simplified version of 母 also, as jneapan has mentioned Discrepancy between kanji and radical "母” - #14 by jneapan

Oh, that’s right.

Hey! I will pass this on to the content team to see if they have any insight onto why these radicals were chosen. But from what I understand, radicals on WaniKani are not always chosen for what is “most correct” but what is more memorable or better for teaching. In this case, perhaps the sun with drops was better for making mnemonics. That’s just me specuating. We’ll let you know when they give a response!

Hi there! We’ve agreed that this one should be changed. We’ve now updated the radical combination from Flowers (艹) , Sun (日), and Drop (丶), to Flowers (艹) and Window (毋).

What’s kinda funny is that I literally just learnt this a few hours ago, and made my own meaning notes for this exact reason (inventing a mother radical in the process  )

And even made a topic about doing it in style!!!

The new radical combination and mnemonic are much better. Thanks!
