Uggghh I just got a message that said “出動出来る” and I kept reading it as “shutsudoushutsukuru”. I kept going over it thinking, what could that possibly mean and how is that read? What does “shutsukuru” mean? I actually had to copy and paste “出来る” into google translate to try to get a reading. If course it came back as “can” duhhh. I was just dumbfounded at how I could have had made such a silly mistake.
Anyone else had any 脳おなら’s lately? What’s your worst one’s?
My girlfriend is often left puzzled, as I’ll mix up two random easy kanji, but then shout out the answer to how to write いびつ in kanji during a quiz show. (the answer is 歪).
It’s actually not that surprising, because when you know that you recognize the kanji, often the familiarity results in your brain not kicking into full gear. But during a quiz show, I’m 100% in kanji mode, and the anticipation of hard questions gets me thinking clearer.
noted. I hadn’t heard that term before. I was pretty sure they didn’t actually call it brain fart literally though but I figured most of us would understand lol.
yea that’s a rough one
I think it was also because it was pushed up against other kanji so it may have registered differently even though I could tell they were separate words.
Same thing happens to me far too often. During reviews too I will come across a Kanji or word I know yet my brain refuses to give up the answer. Really frustrating for those words I have come across in the real world (ie outside WK) or one I know really well. Yesterday it was 面白い! Which was not interesting but painful! And today 退屈 even though I looked that word up several times in the first manga I read and even though I had no problem reading it the meaning escaped me.
