Side Quests and Missable Content

Point of no return: in the Grancel area, just past the wall gates to the first fork.

Ruan:

  • After NPC dialogue
  • Hidden book - after hidden quest, go to academy, main building, downstairs floor, left classroom, talk to パープル
  • After hidden quest, take Tita to the weapon shop for a better S-Craft (bugged for me but it’s supposed to be there)

Other:

  • Quest Monster: along the mountain path, blocks path to Bose.
  • Report in all the monster quests if you haven’t yet (it’s not automatic)
  • Bose: After NPC dialogue available
  • Bose: Hidden Book - after all hidden quests, go to market, book shop and talk to ミネ婆さん
  • Grancel: turn in all 14 hidden books to バラル, found bracer guild top floor. You will need to read them all first, but it counts just clicking through them if you’d rather not.

Discussion Guidelines

Everybody should feel free to post and ask questions–it’s what makes book clubs fun! But please do not post until you are familiar with Spoiler Courtesy!

Spoiler Courtesy

Please follow these rules to avoid inadvertent ネタバレ. If you’re unsure whether something should have a spoiler tag, err on the side of using one.

  1. Any potential spoiler for the current week’s reading need only be covered by a spoiler tag. Predictions and conjecture made by somebody who has not read ahead still falls into this category.
  2. Any potential spoilers for external sources need to be covered by a spoiler tag and include a label (outside of the spoiler tag) of what might be spoiled. These include but are not limited to: other book club picks, other books, games, movies, anime, etc. I recommend also tagging the severity of the spoiler (for example, I may still look at minor spoilers for something that I don’t intend to read soon).
  3. Any information from later in the book than the current week’s reading (including trigger warnings that haven’t yet manifested) needs to be hidden by spoiler tags and labeled as coming from later sections.
Instructions for Spoiler Tags

Click the cog above the text box and use either the “Hide Details” or “Blur Spoiler” options. The text which says “This text will be hidden” should be replaced with what you are wishing to write. In the case of “Hide Details”, the section in the brackets that is labelled “Summary” can be replaced with whatever you like also (i.e, [details=”Chapter 1, Pg. 1”]).

Hide Details results in the dropdown box like below:

Example

This is an example of the “Hide Details” option.

The “Blur Spoiler” option will simply blur the text it surrounds.

Posting Advice
  • When asking for help, please mention the page number, and check before posting that your question hasn’t already been asked. As the threads get longer, it becomes more convenient to use the Search function, which is located in the upper right corner of the forum. It is the magnifying glass which is near your profile picture! The best way to search is usually to type part of the sentence you are confused about, and select “in this topic”. This will show you all posts within the current thread which has that string of text.

  • Be sure to join the conversation! It’s fun, and it’s what keeps these book clubs lively! There’s no such thing as a stupid question! We are all learning here, and if the question has crossed your mind, there’s a very good chance it has crossed somebody else’s also! Asking and answering questions is a great learning opportunity for everyone involved, so never hesitate to do so!

If necessary, include an explanation of any discrepancies in the Ebook page numbers from physical page numbers. If there is an easy shortcut for some ebook versions to relate back to physical page numbers, it would be worth it to include it as a third bullet here, or if you want to use chapter page numbers instead of volume page numbers, as is the case with some manga. For example:
Example

For the Kindle version of this manga, the page numbers and the location number are always 3 apart. If you subtract 3 from the location, this will give you the accurate page number!

OR

Please use the chapter page numbers, instead of the volume page numbers. These are located in between the panels!

Discussion Questions

  1. What sentence/passage gave you the most difficulty? Feel free to request some help, or if you figured it out on your own break it down for the rest of us!

  2. What was your favorite new vocab word from this week’s reading?

  3. Was there any passage that you found particularly intriguing? Did it resonate with you (either positively or negatively)? Was it surprising? Offer any insight or new perspective? Was it just beautifully written?

  4. Thoughts on the attack on the castle?

  5. Thoughts on the empire “not” invading?

  6. Expectations for the final chapter?

It did work for me:

Week 40

Olivier’s true identity finally revealed!? I guess it was obvious he was high up in the empire in some way, but I admit I wasn’t expecting him to be a prince. We already had one secret royal in the party!

I think it’s a nice touch that they point out your rank in that conversation. Finally Estelle’s A-rank awesomeness is acknowledged (thank you Reb for pointing out every secret quest in the game).

On the invasion, I don’t know. The ouroboros guys peaced out without much of a fight after all that fanfare. There didn’t seem to be a whole lot of reason for them to do it, either, if I understood the conversation correctly. Not too surprised that Rishall showed up since he was already shown being remorseful about his past actions and all, but Kanone, too?

Only expectation for the final chapter is that we’re going to explore the giant flying mollusk city! I expect it’ll be a huge dungeon, too. Hoping very hard that we’ll be able to drag Olivier and/or Kuroze around with us this time :eyes:

reply

I got spoiled while reading the fanwiki all the way at the beginning of FC. The first line of the page reads:

Olivert Reise Arnor (オリヴァルト・ライゼ・アルノール), also known in disguise as the bard Olivier Lenheim (オリビエ・レンハイム), is the oldest son of Emperor Eugent III and therefore prince of Erebonia.

Unlike many other fanwikis, this one makes absolutely no effort to hide spoilers.

I’m only B+ :frowning:

Um ok, sweetie, you must have missed the part where they said that it was a test :nail_polish:.

Same, but I’m ready to be hurt again. Maybe the writers will contrive another reason to have us do yet another roundtrip around Liberl instead.

Onto the final chapter!

this week

Week before last was Disc 1; last week was Disc 2; this week Disc 1 before changing to Disc 2 at the end? How crazy UMD switching.

I got Tita’s new S-craft, but didn’t really test it (went with Jin and Agath instead). Wrong party composition first, but After NPC dialogue already says he want Tita to come.

I didn’t have all 14 hidden books, missing 2 of the books (gambler series? didn’t forget the last Bose, though). But seriously, go inside Guild Building while capital is in fire and Queen and Princess are in imminent danger?

My guess is right on the spot for this one. 放浪王子 personality, and a personal bodyguard? Though I couldn’t guess he’s a 庶子.

Joshua once wanted to ask if Olivier is a someone. My wild theory is he is a survivor from Hamel incident, and perhaps even a town mayor or something that knows the plot in advance and one of the parents is a commoner townsfolk.

Oh wow, a future S rank to stand abreast daddy. I am a little worried about the fate of the old man, though.

Also, princess with long hair, I mean Croze. Now short hair at the negotiation.

I didn’t expect who Oliver bodyguard or who Dunan bodyguard could be…

One thing that I only realized just now, is that Empire really doesn’t have an anti-art-sucker, but really, steam tanks.

It isn’t that weird that Organization can use arts on big machines. They already anticipate art sucker themselves and got a lot more time to research on anti-measures. (And wisemen must be as wise as Tita grandpa.)
