This week’s stopping point is after the montage at the lake.

Side Quests and Missable Content

If you head to the 湖畔 and are careful to say you’ve still got stuff to do, there’s a surprise character you can have for this section. (It’s ~ケビン~, if you want to know before going there.)

Two new sidequests on the board, and a hidden one. Now. These quests claim to be 長 on the board, but these are LIES. They (all) expire once you’ve checked in at the 湖畔.

 • 遠い日の記憶 - you will need to go into your inventory to use the item for each person you want to ask. There are a lot of people around town who have something to say, so even if you think you might know the answer it could be fun to investigate anyway.

 • 商人の護衛 - it’s not enough to get her there uninjured, she wants you to avoid battles altogether

 • 廃坑の掃討戦
- found by
going to the mine and talking to the people out front

There are two hidden books available. One in ラヴぇンヌ村, talk to ルゥイ. The other in ハーケン門, talk to i forgot to grab his name  but he’s outside.

And if you want a fancy fishing rod, first talk to クワノ at the lake and then backtrap to ボース, first house on your left (opposite the shops), talk to セシル.

Discussion Guidelines

Everybody should feel free to post and ask questions–it’s what makes book clubs fun! But please do not post until you are familiar with Spoiler Courtesy!

Spoiler Courtesy

Please follow these rules to avoid inadvertent ネタバレ. If you’re unsure whether something should have a spoiler tag, err on the side of using one.

 1. Any potential spoiler for the current week’s reading need only be covered by a spoiler tag. Predictions and conjecture made by somebody who has not read ahead still falls into this category.
 2. Any potential spoilers for external sources need to be covered by a spoiler tag and include a label (outside of the spoiler tag) of what might be spoiled. These include but are not limited to: other book club picks, other books, games, movies, anime, etc. I recommend also tagging the severity of the spoiler (for example, I may still look at minor spoilers for something that I don’t intend to read soon).
 3. Any information from later in the book than the current week’s reading (including trigger warnings that haven’t yet manifested) needs to be hidden by spoiler tags and labeled as coming from later sections.
Instructions for Spoiler Tags

Click the cog above the text box and use either the “Hide Details” or “Blur Spoiler” options. The text which says “This text will be hidden” should be replaced with what you are wishing to write. In the case of “Hide Details”, the section in the brackets that is labelled “Summary” can be replaced with whatever you like also (i.e, [details=”Chapter 1, Pg. 1”]).

Hide Details results in the dropdown box like below:

Example

This is an example of the “Hide Details” option.

The “Blur Spoiler” option will simply blur the text it surrounds.

Posting Advice
 • When asking for help, please mention the page number, and check before posting that your question hasn’t already been asked. As the threads get longer, it becomes more convenient to use the Search function, which is located in the upper right corner of the forum. It is the magnifying glass which is near your profile picture! The best way to search is usually to type part of the sentence you are confused about, and select “in this topic”. This will show you all posts within the current thread which has that string of text.

 • Be sure to join the conversation! It’s fun, and it’s what keeps these book clubs lively! There’s no such thing as a stupid question! We are all learning here, and if the question has crossed your mind, there’s a very good chance it has crossed somebody else’s also! Asking and answering questions is a great learning opportunity for everyone involved, so never hesitate to do so!

If necessary, include an explanation of any discrepancies in the Ebook page numbers from physical page numbers. If there is an easy shortcut for some ebook versions to relate back to physical page numbers, it would be worth it to include it as a third bullet here, or if you want to use chapter page numbers instead of volume page numbers, as is the case with some manga. For example:
Example

For the Kindle version of this manga, the page numbers and the location number are always 3 apart. If you subtract 3 from the location, this will give you the accurate page number!

OR

Please use the chapter page numbers, instead of the volume page numbers. These are located in between the panels!

Discussion Questions

 1. What sentence/passage gave you the most difficulty? Feel free to request some help, or if you figured it out on your own break it down for the rest of us!

 2. What was your favorite new vocab word from this week’s reading?

 3. Was there any passage that you found particularly intriguing? Did it resonate with you (either positively or negatively)? Was it surprising? Offer any insight or new perspective? Was it just beautifully written?

 4. How did you find the 遠い日の記憶 sidequest?

 5. What do you think is going on with the towers and all that?

 6. Which of the party members are you enjoying most/least?

Creep (2014)

Everyone sure is being weird about Tita and Agate! :face_without_mouth: I’m not at all sensitive to stuff like this, it’s whatever, just was thinking wow they’re really going for it with Olivier’s jokes and even others joining in.

Evil all 6s Estelle.

These sidequests were actually pretty decent, doing about 3 like this with more limited scope feels fine for pacing. I was feeling too lazy to go get the new party member, probably should’ve but I’m sure someone else can tell me if he had anything interesting to say or anything like that. Here’s where that fast travel would’ve helped me, heh.

Maybe part of what makes me complain about running in place in this is how the game is constantly reminding us of how there were big consequences in the past. War orphan plotline is pretty good, but it’s contrasted with the way the whole dragon attack and everything else didn’t really change anything in the end. I know it’s way more work to leave Bose messed up for a while and design all that but I think it would help. I don’t need the game dark per se but I kind of feel like even when things happen they don’t REALLY happen. Reaching back, the orphanage felt consequential, but ultimately they were able to rebuild, right? (To be clear, even though I’m fitting it slightly into this pattern, the orphanage arc is good and did see some changes last for a little while). But anyway I say all this because the sidequest plotline is, like, proper worldbuilding and I don’t really have any complaints about it; it feels like the devs know how to do this kind of thing but are scared to do it in the present tense.

The escort isn’t anything to write too much about, but I was totally successful, 0 enemy encounters. In the mine we were able to get Evo’s super initiative in every robot fight so I never saw them attack and it makes the army feel incompetent

I’ve complained sometimes about little missing QoL that’d help parts go smoother so I do want to say I appreciate a lot of the description you get in the bracer journal, especially how it often will tell me which way to leave Bose to get somewhere because the place is big and I forget what’s where.

And then honestly the montage was really cute! I do still like the group. Maybe even just a little real conflict between them would help shake off the excessive saccharine feeling to some degree? It’s a good way to get some character growth in but they’re so constantly supportive, at most they give sort of tough love comments but it’s still for helping each other out. I’d love a little bit of real, messy disagreement. But nonetheless I thought seeing them all out on boats, fishing, etc was cozy and nice.

For the larger plot I am at least quite curious what the towers are doing exactly because they’ve been the biggest Chekov’s Gun that drew my eyes the moment FC started.

Week 31

The 遠い日の記憶 quest was surprisingly good, we got a significant bit of info about a character we’ve gotten to know over the past couple of games. I thought the ending was very cute too, the way she and Maybelle run off to business as usual. It showed that meeting her long lost aunt and acknowledging her past was important, but she didn’t have to abandon the current life she likes in order to do it.

I was terrible at actually completing the quest, though! The mayor’s mansion had to be the last place I checked, and that was only after some guy told me that the little girl looked like the type to live in one (heavy paraphrasing). Lila’s eyes are almost always closed, I’d forgotten they were green!

The hidden side quest was the other one that was interesting for me because of the extra scene with the 強化猟兵. One of them seemed to be familiar with us? I bet these guys will play a role in the chapter story.

The Agate and Tita thing is getting ~weird~, as I feared. So the writers want to get not 1, but 2 pseudo-sibling romances going within the main cast? But even setting that aside, Tita is an actual child. Her EVO VA puts on a cutesy baby voice for her. Nope, I reject this pairing. I pretend I do not see. Moving on.

Ahem. Aside from that, the montage was cute, and I appreciate that the discussion about the towers immediately acknowledged that they were part of the next stage of whatever’s happening with the 輝く輪. My best guess is they’re going to play a role in locating the thing, as that’s somewhat typical for a 3+ similar landmark situation.

I enjoy almost all our party members! I love Olivier as the speedy, flirty, magic guy. And now Schera’s got a mostly permanent place in my party since I went through the game with her. Even now that I can take her out, I’m too used to working with her to do it. 4th spot is rotating for everybody else, except Jin. Sorry Jin, but you’ve got very little going for your character outside of the noble kung fu guy archetype
