Sure, 腕が立つ and 腕が鳴る are simply expression vocabulary using 腕. I’m not surprised about 腕 being used, just that both 能力 and 力量 are more common, so there seems to be no need to use 手腕 instead (I think Shera might be intentionally formal/eloquent here). And it’s the first time I’ve seen 手腕 in my life. JLPT is called 日本語能力試験, not 日本語手腕試験
Besides, this example had nothing to do with physical ability, 政治手腕 is “politics skill” / statesmanship - the English localization says “political finesse” (it’s actually not a word in the dictionary, just a combination of two words, so that’s one more reason Shera didn’t have to use 手腕 instead of 能力 here).
Ah, exactly, great example where the 無 is reinforcing. And yes, a common pattern outside of 無 as well.
Could modify the others with more words, but one distinction is that 手腕 is already specifically a high amount of skill. Some definitions even use words like 能力 in them, and it’s specifically having a lot of it : 物事をたくみに処理していく能力 for example
If Shera strikes you as trying to be a little fancy, just you wait
First impression: I LOVE how much character even the first town and its NPCs have. Really invites one to take a leisurely stroll and talk to most everyone. The game made a point out of saying that you should check back frequently after story events.
The game isn’t exactly shy about where things are headed… Precocious 女記者さん is already shipping them.
Nice to see the remake bringing more appreciation to Trails!
Yes, I tried the demo for about an hour after finishing FC and I really liked a lot of it, especially how pretty the city is, and bustling with chatty NPCs. I also noticed that gossipy girl, fun times, haha.
It’s also really cool they have a mixed real time + turn-based combat system for the remake. I think you can do mostly real time for easy fights, or switch to turn-based straight away if you want.
And I saw that there’s a menu for changing costumes for characters, that’s also a fun addition.
One unfortunate part is that a bit less of the game is voice acted, e.g. part of the first briefing/dialogue with Shera. (In Evolution, basically everything except random-city-NPCs is voice acted, even a few city NPCs are)
But most except NPC dialogue is voice acted of course, and this way you get more reading practice. Good old reading dialogue in JRPGs!
Pretty sure this line was not in the original, makes the background story clear that Estelle and Yoshua did kind of go to school (but probably not a real classroom) via church lessons (I believe this was not clear to some of us in FC):
I’m pretty sure these weren’t randomly picked. Not yet far enough into the plot that I could really suspect anything, but it feels like this is heavy foreshadowing for the events to come…
エステル・ブライト definitely feels like a name that could occupy “The Star”.
シェラザード herself could be the 魔術師? With ヨシュア and カシウス then being the two in the middle… suspenseful.
The reversed Wheel of Fortune is doing a lot of work in this layout. Feels like that will be set turning pretty soon, one way or another…
I guess y’all who have already finished the game have that knowing grin on your face by now.
