空の軌跡 // Trails in the Sky ⚔ Story Club・Currently Playing SC

6 weeks to get through the opening cutscene… That would definitely have been a choice

Imagine the suspense when you finally learn ヨシュア’s name though. Definitely worth it.

Yeah, but since I’ve tried FC and have bought SC, I am probably gonna skip FF. I don’t want to do both (and haven’t bought FF yet).

Man I would love to play this game again in Japanese at some point, though the versions feel like they’ll cause me trouble. Absolute easiest for me would probably be tracking down a Japanese PSP copy since I still have my old PSP 3000 lying about. I own the game on Steam but given that it only officially supports English and the secret method seems to assume you’re running on a windows environment (I’m on Linux) that makes it possibly difficult. Similarly getting it on DL Site also is difficult due to the Linux thing (I’ve had difficulties running certain Trails games through Wine before)

I know I’m quite late here and tbh I’d probably put this off even longer in any case because I have other things I need to get through first, but want to at least figure out how I’d go about doing it when I do get to it

I hear that there are people in these parts that could potentially get you game ROMs if you wanted to emulate the PSP version.

No need to worry, I have procured Trails in the Sky FC for my PSP

1st Chapter (remake) reviews (Reddit) are very good, hopefully this brings a lot of new people to Trails
Release date tomorrow.

Very interesting interview with 近藤 in 電撃 about the remake, unfortunately very heavy spoilers for the first game toward the end that I’ll pretend I didn’t see. Gives a lot of insight into how the company operates and how hands-on it seems that 近藤社長 is with the games.

Again, spoilers for the first game toward the end of the interview. Posting this here because many have already completed the game.

Saving the 後編 to read after finishing the 1st:

@RebBlue Since I’ve been messing with my version of SC, I’ve had 3rd on my mind a little bit. I believe I’ve heard the PSP version has no or at least limited voice acting, which is a big point in favor of Vita in my mind, now that I’ve grown accustomed to it. I like the voices a lot and they make reading it even more relaxed for me. Besides that it’s mostly points in favor of PSP - the visuals are better, I have a small preference for seeing the gameplay without evo alterations, and what I’ve read is that the save carryover is no longer as significant as FC->SC, you just get some sort of bonus items. Usually bonus items are somewhere on the spectrum from useless to wrecking early game balance so I don’t mind.

But I believe I’ve also heard a lot of later versions of 3rd have some section heavily changed and censored? I don’t want to look into it too much for the sake of spoilers and the like, but in theory that’s a big incentive for me to either play the PSP one or at least make sure I remember to watch the original version of that later on… Are you familiar with this?

I haven’t played 3rd yet but neither FC or SC have any voice acting on PSP. That’s certainly a big drawback of these versions. The fonts are also a bit painful to read at times. It’s not so much that it’s pixelated (as we’ve already discussed, I don’t mind that too much), it’s that it’s sometimes outright blurry. The dialogue is fine, but the bracer book and guild questboard for instance are really unpleasant to read.

For example:

Also I don’t think you’ll be able to import your save from SC into 3 if you change versions. Not sure if that’s a big deal or not however.

So, I wasn’t, but also I knew exactly which scene would have been censored. Which, googling only talks about that one. I don’t think you need to change version of the game just for the scene

I’m going to be providing content warnings when we get to that point anyway. By “censored” it seems an entire segment of the scene is straight up removed. The scene is optional and viewing it doesn’t impact the main plot of the 3rd, but it is an important part of a character’s backstory.

Yeah I think that’s some item freebies only that time. Thanks, that font though, yeah, the vita one is much nicer. The voice acting is probably gonna keep me on Evo anyway, but we’ll see.

Understood, thank you! I’ll definitely want to go watch that whenever the time comes.

You could also just watch the uncensored/original scene on Youtube or something, someone will surely mention it when it happens.

Yeah for sure, based on what RebBlue explained I don’t think that’s too big of a deal. I just didn’t know the extent of it but it sounds super self contained. You never know, I was thinking there are cases like the Higurashi console releases that were sometimes so censored all over the place (to remove anything politically contentious) they kind of wrecked the whole final chapter.

Spoiler about the structure of 3rd and the censored scene. Nothing too specific.

I’m pretty sure the censoring here is limited to one thing specifically, and I get why it was censored but it’s part of the structure of third to have a lot of self contained scenes that are all optional but build onto the character stuff. I know it’s normal on the pc releases but I don’t know about the psp/vita versions. You’ll know it when you see it I think. Easily fixed with YouTubing the scene, but it has more impact if you play it.

Technically not true - characters do have the odd voiced line in battle cries etc (eg: Estelle’s Wheel of Time craft), but no dialogue lines are voiced. But tbh I don’t really mind
I generally prefer the look and feel of the original versions - the voice acting is the only real draw to evo for me.
