的 alternative meanings?

Hello,

Just got to lvl 14,
The kanji 的 means target. But, can someone explain me the alternative meanings “AL, ~AL”.

Thanks!

It is used as a suffix to mean kind of , like, sort of or even -ish. e.g. international, classical, traditional, etc.
You will see it a lot in the vocabulary that comes in your level as well as later levels.

It doesn’t really have a meaning on its own so it’s hard to come up with a one word description…what it generally does is turn the noun it’s attached to into adjective.

As @tip says, you’ll see it with a lot of vocab and it it will make more sense then.

It’s not like I’m an expert so I’ll let jisho talk:

知的 intellectual
経済的 financial/economical (経済 is a WK word as well: economy)
社会的 social/societal
基本的 fundamental
政治的 political
etc.

I don’t know if this is right, but I put “-like” or “like” as synonym for (てき). I can’t think of concrete examples for now, but aside from “-al”, that’s how I think it can be defined.

I get it now! Thanks to everyone!

When I saw 的 in the title, I thought immediately of it as the suffix (~ish, ~al) and not of the meaning of target or mark.
