漢検満点! Going for Gold! Perfect score on all levels of the Kanji Kentei Tests (Study Log)

I don’t do vocab on anki, only additional kanji because I already know the early levels on WK.

I do vocab on jpdb though, on top of eight new kanji every day on anki, and it does take some time. I spend about two hours a day on Japanese. Most of it is mindless SRS though, so it’s really not hard, I treat it the same as playing vaguely intellectually stimulating games like sudoku – the trick is to keep it on a level of difficulty that makes you feel successful rather than bored or overwhelmed (to compare it with sudoku again, play on a difficulty where you can win most of the time, but not always).

As for SRSing on top of WK and Bunpro, it really depends how long those take you and how much mental effort they are. As I said, I already know most of the content of WK on my level, so speeding through reviews in the morning and evening takes me, idk, ten to fifteen minutes for like 100 reviews on my laptop? It’s really fast. (phone takes longer bc typing speed)

About Bunpro, I’ve tried it a little and didn’t enjoy it. Idk maybe I don’t get how to use it correctly, but it felt like there were too many synonyms/different ways to express the same thing. It might make sense for N5/N4, possibly part of N3 grammar, but beyond that I don’t personally like it. I learned grammar mostly through Tae Kim and had a lot of fun, but I know not everyone enjoys reading about grammar, and if you don’t, the gamefied SRS approach is probably the better option.

Anyway, what I’m trying to say is it highly depends on how much work you’re already doing, both time and energy wise. I also have to say that the pre-made decks on jpdb spark much more joy for me than making my own anki deck.

Summed up, do what you enjoy and do it consistently, at the end of the day that will always carry you farther than overworking yourself, burning out and giving up or method-hopping.

A few more days and kanji learnt. I’m trying to get back on track. I decided to learn two kanji a day now. They’re starting to get more complicated and I have to review the old ones as well. I’ve learnt 136.
