治 Readings

Hey everyone! :waving_hand:

Not sure if it’s only me, but I keep struggling a lot with some vocab readings from kanji that have multiple “primary” on’yomi readings like “治” (level 16).

When doing the kanji lesson it does give you a mnemonic for both on’yomi readings “じ” and “ち”, but then, in the vocabulary that uses this kanji, it just tells you that you already know the reading, but they all use different readings (and I’ve had this before with some other kanji too):

全治 → ぜん
不治 → ふ
治安 → あん
政治 → せい

I keep flipping a coin to guess the reading and somehow manage to always get the wrong one :face_with_peeking_eye:

I was just wondering if anyone has a trick to remember these

Consuming lots and lots of Japanese and always looking it up until it starts to feel natural and the only way it could sound. I had the same problem always wanting to go むげん for 無言 until I learned by heart what both words mean (無限、無言) and now it is actually impossible for me to think むげん for 無言.

政治 and 治安 for example are also firmly in my vocabulary from consuming a decent amount of news. The other two are still shaky for me as well :frowning:

AFAIK this one can be read both ways btw (though ぜんち is preferred)

Ohh this one as well o_O. My dictionary doesn’t have a preferred reading for this one.
