極限脱出 9時間9人9の扉 (Zero Escape: 999) 🗝 Week 1 (Visual Novel Book Club)

In that case, Fantastic! Except I was really jamming and have to abruptly stop now. I thought I was keeping an eye out for the image in the home post. I started looking for it after the escape room. Anyway, it became clear that I might have missed it and asked. Glad I did.
Thank you much

Week 1’s almost over so time to check in and see how everyone’s doing!

How’s the section going?
  • I have a lot left
  • I’m not quite done, but I’ll probably be finished by the next assignment
  • I finished using most of the time allotted to me
  • I finished and would feel comfortable going a little faster
  • I finished and would feel comfortable going significantly faster

I’m gonna talk about it more in the home post but I just finished the next section and it seems to be little longer, so I think we’ll leave it at three scenes for now and see how things go. Let me know how you guys are doing/any thoughts you have about anything/whatever!

Are you talking about the flowchart? The DS version doesn’t have it, they only have it in later versions unfortunately.

Yes, I had in fact used the Flow button on the PC before I started playing on the DS. There is a button where “Flow” is on the PC for “Map” but it’s not currently usable. So you know, I drew the conclusion that the flow chart was implemented differently and not available until choices were presented.
Looks like I’d better watch more closely for the stop image if I’m going to advance first on the DS.

Lagging a bit behind, but I just finished week 1. Total time for me was 2 hr 10min to 2hr 30min (forgot to log my start time today), which was only doable with textractor and game2text with yomichan for easy vocab look ups tbh.

One day my vocab won’t be crap and I can play games on my steam deck outside on nice days like this. :grinning: it’ll be great.

Sadly, once more characters arrived, the name placeholder textractor pulls isn’t unique, so I can no longer replace all in the text doc I’m saving to fix that.

I’m late to this but I officially started reading the VN today. I’ve been cleaning a bit the R-code hook with the Regex filter extension and while it doesn’t pick up the puzzle sections (I won’t track that in the end, too much of a hassle and I don’t think I need it after all, I’ll go with OCR for those) I could get it to display text flawlessly, and whenever there’s new gibberish I add it to the filter and it’s back to perfect again, quite handy.

Without the puzzle section this week was 8.5k characters long according to my file (novel mode).

This week's full content spoilers

Honestly I didn’t know at all what I was getting into, I know I got it from a sale last year and back then it looked like something interesting but that’s about it :joy: . But wow, I… loved it? I’m pretty convinced so far. It started already very heavy, straight into action while explaining the context in the process but without an info dump, I really like that. Instant tension. The setting of the story is looking very interesting, I didn’t expect to meet so many characters already this early. They are pretty different from each other as well, there’s probably a likeable character for everyone, I don’t think I’ve disliked anyone by first impressions so far.

The puzzle was really cool too, I don’t think I’ve played a game like this before and I’m enjoying it a lot. My monkey brain seemed highly entertained, clicky clicky, searchy searchy. I was surprised you could click so many things, I was expecting less interaction but then I suppose you wouldn’t have a puzzle. Puzzle which I think I brute forced with the blue suitcase? :joy: I’m not sure, judging by meagstudies’s pictures from the DS version it seems like there are two pieces of paper but I don’t think I found another one. My reasoning was just inverting the logic of the first paper: if this one is red letters and spelled アオ, then the other suitcase must be blue letters and アカ. It uhhh worked, soooo :eyes: . whoops.

Anyways really looking forward to this, I was pretty glued to the screen almost the whole time. Hopefully I can catch up on week 2 before week 3 starts, been busy lately with Easter and 9-nine and whatnot.

Finally found some time to start catching up!

Escape room stuff

One of the things I was looking forward to was seeing what all the terrible puns were in the original text and I’m very pleased that they are equally goofy in Japanese! Junpei’s ladder puns (English below for comparison, I love these) making use of ハシゴ as both “ladder” and “barhopping” is fun - there’s a bit more of an actual narrative here where each time you investigate the ladder, he imagines going to a new bar and getting progressively more drunk until he decides that maybe he should get out of the room.

Also, when you click on one of the bedsheets he compares the blue and white stripes to Argentina’s colors??
