朝びらき丸 東の海へ

This is the title of the book, “The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.” I can’t for the life of me figure out what the “びらき” means. Everything else makes sense to me.

Help?

Thank you!!

I’m guessing it’s from 朝開き.

Not sure what it means though, probably something like ‘dawn’ given the title of the book? Something that ‘opens’ (開く) in the ‘morning’ (朝)

I might be totally off track :stuck_out_tongue:

Edit:

As expected, I was totally wrong:

Looks like it means something like ‘setting sail in the morning’.

To clarify one thing, though, the addition of 丸 afterwards makes it clear that it’s the name of a ship. :slightly_smiling_face:

I see, thanks for the clarification!

Do ship names typically end with 丸?

My limited weeb knowledge tells me that ninja-sort-of-names tend to end with 丸, but I didn’t know about ships (nor am I 100% sure about the ninja thing either).

Civilian ones, yes.
