#WANIKANI
CURRENT WANIKANI LEVEL: 13

IN ONE MONTH I HOPE TO BE LEVEL… 17

I’ve been doing a level every 7 days pretty comfortable. Also, I just registered for the JLPT N4 in December, which means I’ll know 97% of the JLPT N4 Kanji 2 months in advance

#GOALS
LAST MONTH’S GOAL REPORT:

=> I reached lvl 13 like I wanted, 1 day before the end of the month. :white_check_mark:
=> I used KW every single day, just like I use WK. I’m pretty satisfied with this. At the beginning of August I was delayed 6 levels on KW compared to WK, but now I only have 2 levels to catch up. :white_check_mark:
=> Managed to continue talking every day with 2 Japanese natives  :white_check_mark:
=> Only posted 1 moment out of 5 on HelloTalk this past month. It was a success though: 72 likes and 26 comments :tada::scream: :white_check_mark:
=> Had lots of fun studying Japanese  :white_check_mark:

=> Failed to watch every video of Japanese Ammo with Misa. I lost half of my notes at the beginning of this month and got a little disappointed. Only returned to study grammar during the 2nd half of August. :x:
=> I completely failed with Tae Kim’s Grammar Guide. Like I said above, I wasted the first half of August and didn’t study any grammar. :x:
=> I completely failed to learn about Anki and use it. :x:
=> Didn’t post anything on Social Media about health advice this past month, which means that I didn’t add JP text to it either. This is something that I want to fix. However, I’m focusing more on another project right now. After I get that managed, I’ll be back to Social Media. :x:
=> Didn’t use Houhou at all. :x:

THIS MONTH’S GOAL:

=> For grammar, I’ll focus on completing the 14 videos (+ 6 video bonus) that I have left from Japanese Ammo with Misa.
=> After that, I’ll go back to using the Tae Kim’s Grammar Guide. I divided it by 51 lessons and I’ll do a lesson a day. Since this will be conjugated with Japanese Ammo’s videos for now, for the month of September doing 15 of these lessons is a good goal
=> I intend to reach lvl 17 on WK (589 Kanji + 97% N4 JLPT ✓)
=> I still have 2 levels left to unlock on KW. This month will definitely be easier in terms of KW usage, since I unlocked 4 levels + 4 levels (that I eventually leveled up on WK) last month.
=> Learn how decks work on Anki. I need to learn this to compensate my lack of vocab outside WK + it will also help me with some stuff in the University.
=> Currently having 2 close friendships on HelloTalk. I want to continue talking with both of them every day and go back to answer some people that were “left behind”. [Same goal as last month]
=> Post at least 3 moments on HelloTalk in JP/ENG/PT. That makes 1 every 10 days.
=> Don’t do more than what’s written in here for the sake of moving faster. I might burn out if I increase all this learning even more.
=> Continue learning about Japanese culture: watch videos, read about it, talk about it. Appreciate everything. This is my own special journey. I must enjoy it.

#HELPING OTHERS

“Spend each day trying to be a little wiser than you were when you woke up. Discharge your duties faithfully and well. Step by step you get ahead, but not necessarily in fast spurts. But you build discipline by preparing for fast spurts… Slug it out one inch at a time, day by day. At the end of the day–if you live long enough–most people get what they deserve.” - Charlie Munger

WANIKANI

Current Level: 13 (yes!! I made it!)

In One Month I Hope to be Level: 16

GOALS

Last month’s goal report: Eh, I’m getting there. Uni is kicking my butt right now so I think it’s time to tone it down with Japanese and focus on my other classes (midterms week, ugh.) At least I made my WK goal!

This month’s goal: Read 節分の鬼 in Let’s Read Japanese and study the vocabulary and grammar stuff I don’t recognize.

RESOURCES

  • Genki 1
  • WaniKani
  • Anki
  • Movies on online streaming service (hulu, netflix, kanopy)
  • Let’s Read Japanese (I just got Vol. 1 of this series and it’s going pretty well so far. The level I’m at in Genki, I don’t get to use as much vocab and kanji as I learn in WK, so it’s good to put some of that into practice).

JAPANESE ABILITY
Current Japanese Weakness: Trying to make sentences, either speaking or writing. Also listening recognition.
How I will improve: Watch more Terrace House, start going to the Japanese speakers’ meetup in town. Continue writing 日記

TIP/ADVICE FOR LEARNING JAPANESE:

CURRENT WANIKANI LEVEL: 2

FAVE: Wanikani - but need to establish a routine.
TRY NEW RESOURCE: Michel Thomas Japanese

HOW I WILL IMPROVE THE ABOVE: Seriously work on Genki, start speaking even if I don’t have all the words, keep working on Wanikani!

HELPING OTHERS
TIPS/ADVICE FOR LEARNING JAPANESE: I find the reason behind things helps it to stick, just learnt that sumimasen is a negative phrase meaning it’s not over/excused yet/I still owe you something which then helped with learning all negative verbs

Current WANIKANI level :18
In 1 month I hope to be: lv 20

Last month’s goal report: N/A. slacked off for a while after passing N5 in July until I realized i had wasted 117 days on lv 17.

#JAPANESE ABILITY
CURRENT JAPANESE WEAKNESS: Still in the bare basics stage and keeping everything in memory is hard.
HOW I WILL IMPROVE ABOVE: Continue to be diligent and be on top of reviews

#HELPING OTHERS
TIP/ADVICE FOR LEARNING JAPANESE: I will still say that patience and diligence is key. It shouldn’t be done with some sort of daydream hanging about you about how you will speak Japanese and impress your friends and family (I am sometimes guilty of doing just that when learning a new language). It is a good motivation, but an infeasible and impractical motivation.

#PROGRESS POST #1

#WANIKANI
CURRENT WANIKANI LEVEL: 6
IN ONE MONTH I HOPE TO BE LEVEL: 10

#GOALS
LAST MONTH’S GOAL REPORT: N/a
THIS MONTH’S GOAL: Continue doing WaniKani everyday. Put together my own Anki deck for vocab, and update it regularly with words that I encounter in WaniKani and my other learning resources.

#RESOURCES
CURRENT JAPANESE RESOURCES: WaniKani/KaniWani, Genki, Lingodeer, Discord (kinda?)

FAVE: WaniKani, currently, since it helps me keep to a schedule. I’m so stingy with my money that I never want to feel like that whole $9/month I’m spending goes to waste.
LEAST FAVE: Lingodeer because it’s taking so long to test out of the lower levels
TRY NEW RESOURCE: Genki II. Probably won’t get to this soon, but I’d like to start reading through the grammar points in Genki II and adding the new vocab to my soon-to-be-existent Anki deck. I could probably finish going through everything within the next month if I put my mind to it, but judging from my current momentum, I find it unlikely.

#JAPANESE ABILITY
CURRENT JAPANESE WEAKNESS: Speakingggg
HOW I WILL IMPROVE ABOVE: Ehh, no plan for this as of now. I want to try speaking with other learners, since I’m pretty garbage at speaking to native speakers for some reason.

#HELPING OTHERS
TIP/ADVICE FOR LEARNING JAPANESE: Good luck.
