Following on from the first thread, today we are looking at chapter 2. I’ll continue to post a new chapter thread on the 1st and the 15th of every month.
Just started! I like the topic of the second chapter so far and how it really makes you think about the differences…I did half of the reading today but I’m a little confused by this sentence: でも、違うは文末だけに表れるのではありません。
How I understood it: But, the end of the sentence isn’t the only part that expresses a difference?
I’m not sure.
Your understanding is correct.
でも (but)、違うは (the differences) 文末だけに(only at the ends of the sentences) 表れる(appear) のではありません (negation)。= But, the differences do not appear only at the ends of the sentences.
Ha looks like I’m the only one really using this thread…I have a question about one of the exercises.
日本人は、どんな時に文を最後まで言わないスタイルを使いますか?
For a japanese person, what point until the end of the sentence do they use a style that can’t be said (???)
And in the question after (pg 39) I can’t find the translation for this word(?) 行目 - 52行目の。。。
Keep in mind these are comprehension questions - it’s specifically intended to test your understanding of the passage. The section it’s referring to is on page 30, starting at the top of the page. Let me know if that’s not enough help and I’ll try to clarify.
“Line number”. It’s 行 = line (of text) + ordinal suffix 目
thanks I understand now how’s your studying going?
