An acquaintance was considering purchasing a second-hand house in Tokyo. It seemed to be an ordinary house with an open and bright interior, but there was a “mysterious space” in the floor plan. When he showed the floor plan to an architect he knew, he was told that there was “something strange” about the house here and there. What is the truth behind the mysterious floor plan? Who is the former resident who suddenly disappeared?
The start date hasn’t been 100% decided yet. It’s the first Saturday after soggyboy gets their physical copy.

Discussion Guidelines
Spoiler Courtesy
Please follow these rules to avoid inadvertent ネタバレ. If you’re unsure whether something should have a spoiler tag, err on the side of using one.
Any potential spoiler for the current week’s reading need only be covered by a spoiler tag. Predictions and conjecture made by somebody who has not read ahead still falls into this category.
Any potential spoilers for external sources need to be covered by a spoiler tag and include a label (outside of the spoiler tag) of what might be spoiled. These include but are not limited to: other book club picks, other books, games, movies, anime, etc. I recommend also tagging the severity of the spoiler (for example, I may still look at minor spoilers for something that I don’t intend to read soon).
Any information from later in the book than the current week’s reading (including trigger warnings that haven’t yet manifested) needs to be hidden by spoiler tags and labeled as coming from later sections.
Instructions for Spoiler Tags
Click the cog above the text box and use either the “Hide Details” or “Blur Spoiler” options. The text which says “This text will be hidden” should be replaced with what you are wishing to write. In the case of “Hide Details”, the section in the brackets that is labelled “Summary” can be replaced with whatever you like also (i.e, [details=”Chapter 1, Pg. 1”]).
Hide Details results in the dropdown box like below:
Example
This is an example of the “Hide Details” option.
The “Blur Spoiler” option will simply blur the text it surrounds.

Posting Advice
When asking for help, please mention the page number, and check before posting that your question hasn’t already been asked. As the threads get longer, it becomes more convenient to use the Search function, which is located in the upper right corner of the forum. It is the magnifying glass which is near your profile picture! The best way to search is usually to type part of the sentence you are confused about, and select “in this topic”. This will show you all posts within the current thread which has that string of text.
Be sure to join the conversation! It’s fun, and it’s what keeps these book clubs lively! There’s no such thing as a stupid question! We are all learning here, and if the question has crossed your mind, there’s a very good chance it has crossed somebody else’s also! Asking and answering questions is a great learning opportunity for everyone involved, so never hesitate to do so!

Don’t forget to set this thread to Watching in order to be notified when weekly threads get posted!
I had a look at the previous book. That one contained 25605 words (give or take) and was read in 10 weeks. This one contains 52493 words (give or take), so I think it makes sense to aim for ~20 weeks, which would mean splitting chapters in half, as @simias suggested.
I’ve also had a look at character counts per chapter. That seemed to me to be the best way, because some chapters may have more images than others, so page numbers may be skewed.
Based on the total character count and the 20ish weeks, we would end up with ~6500 characters a week, which might look something like this? I thought the 9k+ chapters might be too big to do in one go, but on the other hand I also don’t like splitting chapters
So please chime in! Would you rather read a bit faster and split fewer chapters? Or would you rather not have too many outlier weeks even if that means taking a bit longer?
Oh, and another thing to discuss: would it be helpful if I generated a vocab list or do we prefer to compile our own? I’d use the ichiran segmentation tool (as seen at ichi.moe), so there would be the occasional erroneous parsing, and it would contain ALL possible meanings for each word, not the most fitting one. But it does save a bunch of manual work, so it has its upsides.
Really excited to start this! The current schedule of splitting chapters in half to have around 20 pages a week would be fine for me, I prefer taking a bit longer but being able to follow comfortably without rushing too much.
Since each chapter is its own standalone story, splitting chapters in half also gives the opportunity to theorize a bit before we get the resolution the week after.
I added a schedule to the main post based on the input so far (1 vote for a slightly slower pace). Thanks @Buruberimiruku for the breakpoints and page numbers in the last chapter. Do you think you could find the page numbers for the other chapters I broke up? I marked them with ?? in the schedule.
I figured we could start a week from now? @soggyboy, do you think that’ll work for you or would two weeks be better?
I’m also thinking I might not make a separate discussion thread each week, cause that kinda feels like overkill for a club with 6-7 members. I think we could have the discussion in here instead?
I don’t mind waiting a couple weeks more, I have enough other clubs to keep me busy in the meantime.
No opinion on the threads either, I think some people object to having one thread because they find them confusing if people read at different paces but I don’t really mind it myself.
I think one thread is fine, it’s a bit sad to have a book club where every week just has like 2 replies As long as everyone marks where they are in the book when they’re commenting it’s usually ok in my experience.
I decided to purchase on Bookwalker and join, since it’s 45% coinback until May 7. The book is a little expensive though (one single boook already has coinback), but not some high level and not fast pace (IBC) could make it worth. Continuing the series, is that I would know what to expect. As long as the pace isn’t ABC, it’s probably ok for me.
I don’t mind when even it starts. Separated threads, or not, is also whatever. Chapters are disjointed anyway, while also short threads are indeed lonely.
Yes I can take a look and find the page numbers and get back to you. I can start whenever is best for the group. I may start off a bit behind but I don’t mind catching up.
That’s good for me. I wouldn’t be able to join before next week anyway, because I got too much real life, plus I still need to decide if I want to start reading this or finished some of the stuff I left off half-finished in January first. I’ll decide when the first thread goes up.
The official start date is the Saturday after @soggyboy gets their physical copy So you’ve got at least a few more days, maybe even two weeks, who knows!
I updated the title so it’s a bit clearer we haven’t start yet.
