I finally have time to join a book club again! :pleading_face:
This will be my second attempt at an intermediate book club pick. It’s been a while since the first one so this one will hopefully work out better for me :laughing:
The book looks really interesting, I’m looking forward to it.

Quick question, am I right in assuming that the end phrase for the first week is actually 恋人なのだった? I’m currently still reading the sample pages to gauge the difficulty/see if I like it before I commit and I was wondering if the sample doesn’t include the part with the phrase or if 変人 is a typo.

That’s the end phrase, yes. Looking at the amazon sample, it’s at 37%, so you can read the whole of this week before buying the book.

Edit: The correct word is 恋人, not 変人。

In my case, sometimes I have problem with searching for longer phrases even if they’re correct, so I’m used to just shorten them. So I’ve searched for “なのだった”, confirmed it’s around the right % (the next one is at 36%), and called it a day :grin:

Yes, finding the end phrases won’t be a problem :slightly_smiling_face:. I was wondering more about mentioning percentages when we have questions, but I’ll just keep in mind that different people’s percentages won’t line up exactly. It’s not a big deal anyway, because a text search is always an option.

As an ebook reader without search (well, I do have search on Kobo, I just can’t type in Japanese with my OS language set to English, ha
), What I do is percentage + make sure to type out the entire sentence/relevant passage in full. That way people will rarely have to actually check their copy. Definitely appreciate when others do the same.

Wondering if the end page of week 3 at 47 was a typo because Chapter 1 ended on page 37 for me at 14% per my Kindle.

Does that mean reading actually reading 31 pages on week 4 instead of 21?

Nope, this isn’t a typo. The paperback has chapter 1 ending on page 47. Thanks for checking though.

I’ve seen there’s been some concern over spoilers in the weekly discussions. If you accidentally post a spoiler it’s no big deal, just fix it promptly if it gets called out and strive to use appropriate tags going forward.

I absolutely do not want to dilute discussion by discouraging any types of connections or predictions in responses, so please follow these spoiler guidelines from now on.

  1. Any potential spoiler for the current week’s reading need only be covered by a spoiler tag. Predictions and conjecture made by somebody who has not read ahead still falls into this category.
  2. Any potential spoilers for external sources need to be covered by a spoiler tag and include a label (outside of the spoiler tag) of what might be spoiled. These include but are not limited to: other book club picks, other books, games, movies, anime, etc. I recommend also tagging the severity of the spoiler (for example, I may still look at minor spoilers for something that I don’t intend to read soon).
  3. Any information from later in the book than the current week’s reading (including trigger warnings that haven’t yet manifested) need to be hidden by spoiler tags and labeled as such.

And we’re back! I hope everybody had a lovely holiday.

I noticed that there was a membership drop-off from week three to week four, which was surprising considering the first-week drop-off was shockingly low and the number was rock-steady going from week two to three. Out of curiosity, for anyone who’s no longer reading with us, was this due to pace or content?
