(Machine translated)Volume 1 Introduction: Kudou Shinichi is a brilliant high school detective with deductive powers worthy of Holmes himself. But one day, while pursuing a case, he is slipped a mysterious drug that transforms him back into a child…!? Taking the alias “Edogawa Conan,” the pint-sized great detective has arrived!!
Please follow these rules to avoid inadvertent ネタバレ. If you’re unsure whether something should have a spoiler tag, err on the side of using one.
Any potential spoiler for the current week’s reading need only be covered by a spoiler tag. Predictions and conjecture made by somebody who has not read ahead still falls into this category.
Any potential spoilers for external sources need to be covered by a spoiler tag and include a label (outside of the spoiler tag) of what might be spoiled. These include but are not limited to: other book club picks, other books, games, movies, anime, etc. I recommend also tagging the severity of the spoiler (for example, I may still look at minor spoilers for something that I don’t intend to read soon).
Any information from later in the book than the current week’s reading (including trigger warnings that haven’t yet manifested) needs to be hidden by spoiler tags and labeled as coming from later sections.
Instructions for Spoiler Tags
Click the cog above the text box and use either the “Hide Details” or “Blur Spoiler” options. The text which says “This text will be hidden” should be replaced with what you are wishing to write. In the case of “Hide Details”, the section in the brackets that is labelled “Summary” can be replaced with whatever you like also (i.e, [details=”Chapter 1, Pg. 1”]).
Hide Details results in the dropdown box like below:
Example
This is an example of the “Hide Details” option.
The “Blur Spoiler” option will simply blur the text it surrounds.

Posting Advice
When asking for help, please mention the page number, and check before posting that your question hasn’t already been asked. As the threads get longer, it becomes more convenient to use the Search function, which is located in the upper right corner of the forum. It is the magnifying glass which is near your profile picture! The best way to search is usually to type part of the sentence you are confused about, and select “in this topic”. This will show you all posts within the current thread which has that string of text.
Be sure to join the conversation! It’s fun, and it’s what keeps these book clubs lively! There’s no such thing as a stupid question! We are all learning here, and if the question has crossed your mind, there’s a very good chance it has crossed somebody else’s also! Asking and answering questions is a great learning opportunity for everyone involved, so never hesitate to do so!

Hello and welcome!
Finally, the time has come to read Detective Conan
I have never read it myself (nor seen the anime, I’m sure it has one?), so if anybody has input about what would make more sense for the club to read pace / chapters wise, let me know.
Otherwise I think I’ll suggest a schedule based on the number of pages + trying not to cut chapters in two.
Here is the 目次 for the first volume:
Assuming this is a serious question and not a joke/sarcasm, there is indeed an anime - 1214 episodes, 29 movies, and more than a dozen OVAs…and ongoing!
As far as reading pace, I’m going to defer to others who have participated in the club before, since unlike me they would have a better idea of how much is standard per week. But in case it helps, I will say that this tends to be a very text dense manga, especially when the solutions of the various mysteries are discussed (The manga is largely organized into cases, which tend to be 3 or 4 chapters long on average, though it does vary. There’s a nice listing of which cases are in which chapters/volumes at List of manga cases - Detective Conan Wiki by the way - I would not consider that link spoilery, unless you consider character names or case titles to be spoilery…just be careful about clicking links that might take you to more detail!
I have a physical copy of the old release, which is what I read 2 years ago when I started the series (on V26 right now, but looking forward to re-reading V1!). When the special edition came out, I bought it digital on bookwalker - I think there’s an extra case included at the end that’s not in the original? I’m planning to read that this time for the club.
My initial thought is “one case per week”, or (depending on length) one case per two weeks. Here is the volume one case split:

Let’s compare with previous book club reads:
Club

Word Density
Pages Per Week
Conan
Yes
21.05
天国大魔境
No
9.14
30ish
Dr.STONE

ハクメイとミコチ

12.71

It looiks like it’s kind of all over the map. Conan typically averages double the words per page (with the density clustered rather than being spread out) but has furigana.
5-Week Schedule Suggestion
Week 1: File 1 through page 36 (31p)
Week 2: Finish File 1 + File 2 (29p)
Week 3: Files 3-5 (45p)
Week 4: Files 6-7 (31p)
Week 5: Files 8-9 (30p)
7-Week Schedule Suggestion
But if we split File 1 into two “warm-up” weeks, and split File 4 mid-chapter, we can get seven weeks:
Week 1: File 1 (18p, subject to split location)
Week 2:File 1 (18p, subject to split location)
Week 3: File 2 (26p)
Week 4: Files 3-4 (22p, subject to split location)
Week 5: Files 4-5 (23p, subject to split location)
Week 6: Files 6-7 (31p)
Week 7: Files 8-9 (30p)
Having 45 pages for week 3 is a lot, but this is before case-solutions started to be dense, so splitting it up doesn’t make sense from that perspective. And there’s furigana. But I’m sure there’s a good spot to chapter-split it down to about 22 pages per two weeks. If I were making the schedule, I would accept all pushback from regular club readers.
The goal of this schedule is keeping whole chapters together, but the first two chapters are non-typical in length (36p and 26p) making them more difficult to split out. If the IMC wanted a couple of “warm up” weeks, I would split File 1 across two weeks, and leave File 2 on its own as the third week, giving a total of six weeks. (Or seven if also splitting up Files 3-5 mid-chapter across two weeks.)
Nice work, thanks for putting that up!
I think it makes more sense with the 7 week schedule, since this manga is rather dense. And if we are not losing too much of the story while doing that then why not.
One of the nice things with this series, although I don’t think we’ll see it until the final case of the volume, is that each chapter reiterates the situation. Since the manga originally released in a monthly manga magazine, it was useful to remind readers of the details of the case. That makes it easier to split a single case across two weeks.
There’s a slight preference for starting the club on the 10th rather than on the 3rd. Closing the poll now, don’t want to be in the situation where votes for the 3rd start coming in, well, too close to October 3rd!
So we start in a week and a half
So far it seems like we will be reading with the 7 week schedule, but I can leave that poll open a bit longer.
There were no vote for the 5 week schedule, so I closed the poll and updated the first post with the schedule
See you in one week, I’m personally very much looking forward!!
