各自 Meaning Explanation Confusion

In the WaniKani mnemonic, was “individual” intended as a meaning, or was it meant to be “each individual,” included below for reference:

Each self refers to each person or individual.

My explanation was getting messy so I just deleted it.

I’ll just say… can you find EJ-JE resources that don’t include the meaning “individual”?

But I see it used in multiple English-Japanese dictionaries (Kenkyusha for example). It seems that plenty of sources would disagree? It may not be a meaning applicable to all usages, but it’s hard to say that it ‘should not’ be a meaning when multiple, independent sources list it as a meaning.

For example if you look up 各自 on ALC you will find this phrase with this translation:

各自の判断で
at individual discretion

I dunno if I’d say “quite misleading”. Given the bolding, it’s barely even ambiguous - if “each individual” had been intended, it would have read " each person or each individual". But yes, you could make it clearer by swapping the two meanings.
