Hi
Why is my answer incorrect? Or is the context incorrect? According to jisho “to deceive” is 誤魔化す so i want to double check before adding synonyms incorrectly. Thanks.

@mods, what do you think?
Need to add “To deceive @Denkigaku” to the context sentences, @mods
You will encounter a lot of terms that can’t really be directly translated to english - the meanings will overlap but only to a degree. So yes, it may mean “to deceive” in some contexts but with a nuance of the deception not being made through lies but by being enchanting / charming.
I think the WaniKani team wanted people to remember that and that’s why they didn’t allow “to deceive” as a proper answer - “to bewitch” is simply more fitting for most cases.
That being said, there will be situations where you will give a good answer that won’t be recognized by WaniKani simply because the term is a bit vague and this particular answer is not on the list, while having the same meaning. For those cases, I highly suggest installing a script like WaniKani DoubleCheck that will allow you the possibility of undoing your answer and typing it again. Just don’t overuse it for things you actually didn’t really get right.
I see, it’s things like these that makes the language interesting.

Good question — we’ll take a look at this one and get back to you!
Hey! Just wanted to let you know the content team considered this, and they added “to deceive” as a meaning, as well as “to trick.” They also updated the Meaning Explanation.
