五月山 reading explanation

Hi,

五月山 is a park in Ikeda and translates to Satsukiyama. I was wondering if anyone could explain the “sa” portion. I can’t find any info on that being a reading for 五.

Thanks!

It’s from 皐月

Kanji don’t necessarily have to be read with their readings, as weird as that may sound. If you are familiar with words like 大人 then you have already seen this. Though 皐月 - > 五月 follows a different pattern because they are the same word more or less

It’s also a nanori (name) reading for 五, which you can find on some sites. Presumably it comes from the same route as mentioned by Vanilla.
