中 高 外 labels in dictionary

I am trying to figure out what these labels mean on Kanjipedia. I am thinking that 外 means obscure or antiquated. Does 高 mean stiff or formal language? By comparison, 中 would be everyday language.

grade its taught in for joyo (pink) and non-joyo, no?

That makes way more sense. I didn’t think that they would have readings separated by grade level.
