This week’s chapter corresponds with the fifth episode of the anime, or roughly from 11:30 to 13:50 of the fourth season’s first episode.
Aoi and Hinata start the chapter on Ginza Doori, same place as last week - though in the anime they’re on Hanno Odori instead (again, you can tell from the light poles). Either way, the 山道具屋さん she spots appears to be entirely fictional. However, there is one in town, and not too far away: ひだまり山荘. And from the attached photos on Google Maps, it’s absolutely packed with images of the Yama no Susume characters. They basically remain there for the rest of the chapter.
The tent behind Aoi in the first panel of page 59 appears to have the Gore-Tex name on the side, though I couldn’t really identify the specific tent - Gore-Tex just makes the fabric, not actual tents.
This chapter was cute! It was nice seeing Aoi being a bit more independent and making a new friend
My comprehension is getting a lot faster, I was able to read this whole chapter in about 20 minutes without feeling worn out! I’m so grateful for the book clubs here
I’m having a pretty tough time with the horrible scans in bookwalker for this manga though. I’ve been getting a lot of use out of the vocab sheet to figure out some of the more detailed kanji is, so big thank you to those filling it out.
Hey all! I’m gonna try to actually ask questions about the things I don’t understand in this chapter, mostly grammar wise…
First up, pg. 57, what’s the grammar behind 入りづらそう? I know そう means to seem like, but is there a base verb that means “difficult to enter” that I’m missing? Or is there grammar loaded in the “zura” part?
The grammar point is づらい which means “difficult to do” when added to the end of the word. You are correct this in then followed by そう mean “seems to be”
Please do! I’m always too lazy and too focused on getting on with the story to ask grammar questions, so I’m always happy when people pick up my slack.
Btw, did anyone understand why it was so 入りづらい for the girls to enter that store? It just looked like a normal store, so why did it have such a sinister athmosphere from the outside?
Yeah, I’m not really at all sure. It looks old, yes, and that… somehow makes it feel unapproachable? Maybe it’s just not the sort of thing that high-school girls should be interested in. Really the only thing that looks bad about it is the “smell lines” in the panels. I was hoping the anime version would shed some light on it, but the episode skips this whole conversation - there’s never any question of them not going into the shop - Aoi notices it, and then they just… go in.
Glad I’m not the only one who didn’t get it. Maybe the people who adapted the anime also didn’t get it and that’s why they left it out? In my own student days, I used to be somewhat hesitant to go into small, traditional stores, because there was a high chance that a too motivated store employee would tag along behind you and I’d feel obliged to awkwardly pretend to be interested in buying stuff clearly out of my price range when I actually just wanted to poke at random stuff. So at first I thought it might be something like that, but then the girls immediately seem to feel at home in there once they’re inside, so idk.
I wasn’t sure either, so I interpreted it as that feeling when I see a super specialist store about something I don’t know much about - I feel reluctant to go in because I might feel out of place
On pg. 59, jisho can’t seem to find the word “形的" but Google Translate is saying “shape-wise”. Is there grammar behind the 的 kanji? What does this mean?

Reading this after the fact, and I have to say, after reading a bunch of volumes of Yuru Camp where the camping goods store is treated as a promised land, it’s quite a change in tone to see one portrayed as this lol
