The vocab spreadsheet says it’s part of this week as pages 41 and 42 vocab are included in it. The home thread also includes 41 and 42 in this week. My mistake if that’s not where to look for what’s included for the week. It’s my first week catching up to y’all.
Finally caught up! It really does feel easier with time, even though I still have to look up new words and brush off unknown grammar but I can definitely knows the general meaning. When I started I feel like I was reading chinese or something lol
I mean, that’s not that far from the truth, is it
Best bet is to check the “Final panel this week” in the intro post!
Week 6 is now live! Welcome to Chapter 2!
悪かったわね
That wasn’t bad
もう。。。セールには行かない
I won’t go to another sale again…
でも3パックも買えたのすごいわあ助かる
But it’s great that you were able to get three packs, it helps
あ。。。そういえば
Come to think of it…
えーっとあの 会ったよ偶然んとその。。。
Um… I met someone by coincidence, it was…
何!? 誰!? 会った!?
What? Who? You met someone?
堀さんが ユキって呼んでる人
…That person you call ‘Yuki’
(Success! I conquered the clause modifying a noun =P )
I believe this is Hori saying “Sorry”.
Sometimes 悪い/悪かった will be said as a “My bad” or sort of light way of apologizing. I think this kind of captures Hori’s stubbornness, cause imo she should probably say ごめん but she’s not very honest about her feelings, so she says this instead.
A quick side-note that you will most certainly hear in anime and read in manga, is when people say stuff like this or won’t say thank you despite being thankful, you’ll hear someone say:
素直じゃないな!
(Definition 2)
Ooh, thanks!
由紀かな。。え。。会ったってその格好で
You met yuki… like this? (in this form)
会話したわけじゃないけどね
It doesn’t mean we had a conversation, though
何考えてんだろ私
What am I thinking
私以外の人に宮村のそういう格好とか見てほしくないな
I don’t want people other than me to see you like this
ごめんなんでもない
Sorry, it’s nothing
忘れて麦茶持ってくる
I forgot to get the tea
作り置きしてあったかな
I wonder if (?) it was premade
おにいちゃん食べないの?
Oniichan, you’re not eating?
You just combined lines from two separate panels.
This is:
忘れて(ください)
Just forget it.
麦茶持ってくる
I’ll go and get tea.
Haha, thought I was ahead of the curve because people are always telling me ‘these two panels were one sentence,’ my b.
Theoretically this doesn’t translate to “it does not mean…”, that has a very different meaning in English than the intended meaning here. わけ is often used in contexts where you can’t translate it as “reason/cause/meaning”. Instead it sort of translates to “But we didn’t talk”. As opposed to “it doesn’t mean that we talked”, which would mean “yes, we met, but you can’t therefore say that we talked”, it means “Yes, we met, but we didn’t talk with each other”.
This form of わけ is common, probably more common than using it as “reason”.
Yeah, the literal meaning I found when I looked up わけ didn’t seem to quite fit the conversation, but I put it anyways. I was guessing it was something more like what you said.
堀さんあの
Hori-san, um…
俺も堀さんのそういう格好とか
I also [don’t want others to see] this form of yours
料理してるとことかね

Your muscles are nicely toned (This one lost me, thanks Gorbit for the translation haha)
うるさいわよ!
You’re so annoying!

それは私も嫌よ
So I’m also disagreeable…

Okay, I’m done with this section. ![]()
You’re welcome, here’s a few more
Now this page, I’d try to translate Miyamura’s speech as,
“Things like x, y, z… I also don’t want others to see these”, it will make more sense why in a second
We talked about this a bit earlier, but that とこ is short for ところ, which here takes up the meaning of “point in time”. In practice this pattern is roughly equal to “When X” in English. “when you’re cooking”.
Big voice = shouting
“When you are shouting out of anger (lit.: you’re shouting and get angry)”
どうでもいい is generally “does not matter”, but used like this, it’s a “does-not-matter hairstyle”, which won’t translate nicely, but maybe I’d say something like “when you don’t care about your hair at home”, though that isn’t literal.
見られる → to be seen, here “if others saw (that would be bad)”
A loud voice, but yes, literally a ‘big voice’
どうでもいい is like ‘whatever is fine’. He’s saying she doesn’t care how messy her hair is at home (because she’s doing home stuff)
Literally correct, but contextually probably more like ‘Shut up!’ (out of embarrassment) here.
見られたら = 見る+~Vられる+たら, so it’s more “If other people were able to see”. And 嫌だ is いや だ, which in this case is more like ‘would be bad’ or ‘no good’. So altogether, more like “If anyone else saw [these things], that would be bad, I think”.
Hori is saying here “That is / for me also / I don’t like it”, so it’s like “I also don’t want anyone else to see those sides of me…” (Or more succinctly, “That would suck for me too”)
/edit I don’t believe it, Gorbeaten again
It was a good try
(But I also like reading multiple people’s corrections to get different explanations, so no worries!)
Not this time it’s, but quite literally “this time is something only for me”. Or rather “This is a time specifically for me”
I believe ばか is “stupid things” here. “don’t say stupid things”
Is it worse if I tell you that I’m typing this up on a phone? Though I was already halfway done with my essay when you started typing yours up.
