Oh sorry, I didn’t realize the question was about how common is 死ね used as an insult. I don’t live in Japan so I can’t really say, but for what it’s worth, the equivalent in the language spoken in my country is pretty commonly used as an insult here.
Me too. Luckily I only read ahead a few pages. Looks like the next chapter transition is easy to miss too.
Haha, I know, right? It’s funny though, after getting drunk it didn’t seem to matter that Okazaki was there. Also interesting how Yuuki was the oblivious one inviting Okazaki.
Was he though? I got the impression that he invited him on purpose so as not to be alone with Nao for whatever reason? I may be wrong though. He just looked particularly awkward to me at that time, and I can’t imagine a teenager not realizing what it might mean when your girlfriend invites herself over.
That could be it, but it’s hard to tell what he’s thinking. I’m not sure how he would miss the implication of his girlfriend inviting herself over, but when Okazaki left Yuuki’s house, he didn’t seem to mind being left with Nao. Then again, he’s pretty drunk at that point. Maybe we’ll get more clues later about Yuuki and Nao’s relationship. Either way, Yuuki is acting weirdly infatuated with Okazaki. I’m really interested to see where it all goes.
I wanted to catch up because I didn’t realize this off shot book club was a thing and accidentally also read the 8th chapter… I have not been the same ever since.
But yeah, I also found it strange how nice Yuuki was to Okazagi. A complete change of character is pretty unrealistic but maybe he has different motives, who knows?
Week 4
We’re still working on chapter 7 this week.
- I’m still reading chapter 7
- I finished chapter 7
- I’m reading ahead
- I’m behind, I plan to catch up later

Next week we might increase the pace to one chapter per week. I don’t want to sway the poll results too much, but it looks like the book only gets easier after chapter 7.
- Sounds good!
- I’d rather stay with one chapter every 2 weeks
- Doesn’t matter to me

oops… I read all the posts warning that chapter 8 sneaks up on you, and even with that… well… I finished chapter 8 lol
I think it’s the least obvious chapter change I’ve ever seen.
I finished chapter 8 too, glad it wasn’t just me, I just got super into the story and art wow!!
I’ve voted doesn’t matter since I’m reading ahead, but I think it’s definitely doable.
Today I read the second half of volume 4, then all of volumes 5 and 6 (I did have the day off).
I finally have time to catch up on this ! This chapter was really cool. The art at the end was 10/10.
I was a bit confused by the situation with Gosho though… When Okazaki visits her and asks her if she wants to join, she looks very bored, as if she doesn’t want to go. However, later on, her classmates are suprised that she is talking to someone. Maybe she is the shy type. And maybe she reacted with a long face to keep appearances in front of other people. Am I reading that wrong ? With my level, it is difficult to understand the subtlelty in the writing…
I feel that there’s a lot about Gosho we don’t know yet. In the scene you describe she looked more sad than bored to me. She’s evidently lonely and sad, always seeking out the most deserted spot in the school and just looking out the window. (She also previously mentioned her little brother in a strange way I thought, I wonder what’s up with that). Now we also learn that she never speaks in class, and indeed Makoto finds her staring out the window again while everybody else is chatting. It seemed to me like there was something on her mind, and she in fact couldn’t go out, rather than didn’t want to. But these are all my interpretations, and they may be entirely wrong.
Ahhh thank you for clarifying the subtlety there. I was also confused and missed a lot of it at my current level, but this helps it make more sense. I’m a lot more intrigued now
Looks like most people have voted, and next week we’ll start reading one chapter per week! I’ll update the schedule.
It definitely had “I used to have a brother” vibes.
Week 5
Reading chapter 8 this week.
- I am reading along
- I will catch up later
- I’m reading ahead
- I won’t be reading (anymore)

Keeping up with everything. chugging along.
The stuff only gets weirder and weirder as you go along.
Interesting development this week!
This chapter was super light on text, so it was a lucky chapter to be the first full chapter week
God I keep missing the chapter changes, I read half of the next chapter again (This one wasn’t even that hidden, I was just immersed and didn’t even see it).
I think its Verb+たて
Where ~たて means freshly or newly.
So in this case なりたて = “freshly became (a vampire)”
