It’s just a shortened form of いや, so he’s saying いやな奴. や is an alternative form, according to Jisho.

aaaah, okay - thanks! I feel like 99% of the time I get stuck on things it’s stuff like this where it’s a shortened form or a casual omission of something. Hopefully something that will get easier to spot just with familiarity/repeated exposure to native text rather than textbook examples!
