Ending Point
Save wherever after completing sidequests and doing whatever grinding you’d like.

Visitable locations:

  • Taura’s House/トーラの家
  • Anima Relic 1
  • Anima Relic 2
  • Snowfield Hideout/ 雪原アジト
  • Nortune (Kislev)
  • Lighthouse
  • Deus (don’t go here! That’s next week)
  • Duneman Isle/ サンドマンズ島

Gameplay

雪原アジト
  • JP Map/Guide
  • English Map/Guide Ctrl+F WK61
  • You can explore and collect another Wizard Ring. You now have three, one for each active character if you wanted to train DBs.
  • You should also use this time to beef up your Gears, but avoid engine upgrades for now. We’ll get better options in a bit.
  • Make sure Kishin Sword is NOT equipped to Citan’s gear. Enter the passage behind the gear shop owner and talk to the guy on the beam to get an upgrade. Then don’t forget to equip it.
  • Find Midori and Dan in the NE. If you got Midori’s ring back in Chapter 2 (!), trade it for a Hercules Ring/ヘラクレスリングwhich gives 50% more EXP.
  • Talk to Dan for a scene
  • Go thru the southern passage for a scene with Hans. Talk to him again for info on our next area, Duneman Isle/サンドマンズ島.
  • You can play speed with the kid near Hans to get Emeralda and Elly Jr dolls after one win and five consecutive wins
  • NW path goes to a guy you give gold nuggets to to dig. Give him one, wait a bit, give him a gold bullion, wait ten minutes. He’ll unearth a jukebox to listen to for 100G each…you decide if it’s worth it given everything else to spend cash on.
  • Talk to woman near tunnel to buy picotile/ピコッチル birds for 20kG. Use the elevator pad to the old Chu-Chu lounge and check the display cases for 6 items, including another Hercules Ring. If you handed over the badges you can see an extra scene while checking displays as well.
  • Fight Neo Gimmicks nearby for Golden Vests to save money on equipment, and the NW icy island near Anima Relic 2 dungeon for Neo Tears for Golden Hoods.
  • Talk to Zephyr with Citan for a scene
  • Talk with ChuChu in the Ygg hangar for a scene
  • Talk to Maru as well in the Ygg
  • Can also find your non-active party members in Ygg.
  • In Kislev, in the Nortune battling area, find and talk to Big Joe. He brought that jukebox we fixed up earlier over from the Wildcat. You can also Battle more if you like. You can sell monster parts at where the Ygg used to be for good money
Taura’s House/トーラの家

His house is SE on the world map, inside the forest. Talk to him to get equipment.

In the forest is a rare encounter with Slugger that is weak to DBs (try the north area if having trouble). With Trader Card (if you managed to get it…) it drops speed shoes equipment that gives haste. This status carries over to gears, and can essentially replace booster without the fuel cost.

"Lighthouse”

Map/Walkthrough
Go to the Aquvy/アクヴィarea near Babel Tower. Make sure Emeralda is in the party.
Grab the Deathblower1 & 2 & 3 in this area, as well as G-Godfather for Billy’s gear in a box out of sight.

In the TV studio you can find record on Myyah/Mian/Miang (ミァンの映像) that plays. LORE!!

Big Joe’s store has great items and equipment, as well as some interesting lore. Each time this building is entered four random chests appear with 16 possible items, including two books (ハイパーモード , ビッグジョー & ゾハル) that probably have veeeery interesting descriptions. You can also grab a spider as a drop, if you missed the one in Lahan I guess. Matchlock, a gun for Billy, sells for 6000G.

This shop has the BEST gear equipment in the game and the price to match. GNRS50 increases damage and stacks. You can see a list of item here. Drive permanently increase stats for one character. It has bullets for Billy’s Godfather guns you can get here as well. Z Charger/燃料リカバーZ for increased fuel recovery.

The bookshop has various lore texts to read, including on the second floor (LORE!):

In the east, go on foot near the X on the map and find a pothole in the road to enter. Keep going thru the subway and grab a Z Charger/燃料リカバーZ , which ups the Charge refuel to 500 from 50! Keep going for a scene for Emeralda.

After, take her back to the Snowy Hideout and talk to the man in the prison area and FINALLY trade that Mermaid Tear from Chapter 1 for a Mermaid Ring accessory that only Emeralda can use.

Also head to Citan’s house in Lahan and inspect the music box for a new note.

Duneman Isle/ サンドマンズ島

Map/Walkthrough
Billy is a good choice here for this Ether triangle attack and his party heal. Mind your ammo.

Off the SW coast of Aveh near Bart’s Hideout is a sandy island with ruins and a beach. NOTE! Apparently it’s possible to get stuck here if you land wrong, so MAKE A BACKUP SAVE!! And land far away from the ruins.

Enter the ruins, answer you don’t want to go back, and enter a battle. You can fight Dragons around here with Trader Card equipped (if you have it…) for good items and experience. Fair warning they hit HARD.

It’s easy to get lost. Here is the path:

  • 3 screens East into the Desert
  • 1 screens North to see a flock of sharks
  • 1 screen North to see big skeleton. Climb it’s spine to get a sword.
  • 1 screen South
  • 1 screen West with a sandfall and two chests: Kingly Armor and Godfather (Billy gun). Choose one. If you fall over you have to fight a Wyrm. Use ether on it. You have to return to get the other chest—N then W.
  • To leave head to the first rocky area and find the guy with a buggy or just walk it.
Endgame Tips
  • Speed Shoes on foot replace booster in Gears + Holy Pendent extends Gear’s Hypermode from 3 turns to 6. GREAT in Gears.
  • Power Crisis can really amp up the power of Deathblows in sticky situations (like fighting Dragons…)
  • Cash: Equip Trader Card and head to the Anima Dungeon #2, then fight the Croaker Tribes. You’ll get six Scales for each battle; sell them at Kislev at the B-Info store in Nortune or where the Ygg IV used to be (blue marker).
Cash: You can sell extra Golden Vests/Hoods you can farm hear the Snoy Hideout for ~2900G each.
  • EXP: Equip Hercules Ring, fight in the lower levels of Deus (not yet!!) to fight Power Seraphs near the Repair Bot (applies next week, we’re not heading there yet)
  • If you get the super powerful engine for Fei’s gear that lowers fuel to 1000, you can equip the Z Charge restore (500 on charge) + the GNRS50 (50% increase in power) to body most things

Oh, and Battling is still open….if you like.

Discussion Guidelines
Everybody should feel free to post and ask questions–it’s what makes book clubs fun! But please do not post until you are familiar with Spoiler Courtesy!

Spoiler Courtesy

Please follow these rules to avoid inadvertent ネタバレ. If you’re unsure whether something should have a spoiler tag, err on the side of using one.

1. Any potential spoiler for the current week’s reading need only be covered by a spoiler tag. Predictions and conjecture made by somebody who has not read ahead still falls into this category.
2. Any potential spoilers for external sources need to be covered by a spoiler tag and include a label (outside of the spoiler tag) of what might be spoiled. These include but are not limited to: other book club picks, other books, games, movies, anime, etc. I recommend also tagging the severity of the spoiler (for example, I may still look at minor spoilers for something that I don’t intend to read soon).
3. Avoid posting any information from later in the game than the current week’s reading. If it is necessary to doing so, it needs to be hidden by spoiler tags and labeled as coming from later sections.
Instructions for Spoiler Tags

Click the cog above the text box and use either the “Hide Details” or “Blur Spoiler” options. The text which says “This text will be hidden” should be replaced with what you are wishing to write. In the case of “Hide Details”, the section in the brackets that is labelled “Summary” can be replaced with whatever you like also (i.e, [details=”Chapter 1”]).

Discussion

  • The equipment and stats system in this game is very obtuse.
  • Talk to the NPCs around the world if you’d like a fun dose of trauma!

SIDEQUEST WEEK

…Is big Joe actually immortal?

At last we get adult エメラダ! I love her style :star_struck: I actually love the whole vibe of the lighthouse side-quest, even if I wish it was a bit meatier. The feel of the abandoned city, the random big joe shop with heroic bgm, and the bits of 4000 year old zeboim lore we get. Though it was a little funny to kickstart it with a line from Billy as we approach the lighthouse itself like: “No one knows what’s underneath the lighthouse!” Well why didn’t they just ride the giant, obvious elevator?

I was surprised there was eldridge info in the bookshop, does this mean zeboim was the reason why zohar was all the way out in the middle of nowhere? Am I just looking for a reason to explain that? Also, I really appreciate the look of this scene and the way it shows the extent of technological advancement without focusing on the city itself:

I liked all the little details of Kim and Elly’s apartment together, too, but I forgot to screenshot. D’oh.

Picked up everything I could in the listed locations, although knowing how much I’m missing makes me wish I’d put in the effort to get that trader card. Free speed shoes, you say?

I got the one free Z-charger and a 1000 fuel engine for Fei, but I slapped the GNRS50 I bought onto Billy instead for a little more balance on the team. I couldn’t afford anything else and I don’t think I want to grind for more money at this point. We’re already plenty overpowered!

Also also, I got a few more mega deathblows and found it funny that Billy’s final DB is just an FPS sim:

(Kinda looks like he’s gunning for the team in this shot, actually.)

サンドマンズ島

So what do you do if you got lost, is there a way out again or do I need to reload a previous save? Asking for a friend

Edit: my friend found the way out, all good :grimacing:

Week 35

Exploring the abadonned town in the Light house was fun. The inside of the buildings where not very Xenogears-like mood, made me think more of Fallout 4.

Didn’t get Trader Card either earlier…!

Nice to finally know why Esmeralda was calling him Kim the first time, I had forgotten about that.
I also never expected to see a Christmas tree in Xenogears, I like that there are still surprises xD

Fixed that for you!

A bit scared that I won’t be able to beat the game next week because of my lack of “proper” items. Just happened for me with FF3, wasn’t using the “correct” jobs for my characters, so I couldn’t defeat the last boss. We’ll see, crossing fingers!

replies

Nice! And you can even see a hint of Kim/Fei’s little painting studio in the corner!

I think you’ll do fine. The equipment that makes you very strong is nice to have, but I don’t remember the endgame being so difficult that you need them. It’s like Elly and her ether-doubled Aerods. You can play through the game fine without them, but they’re an option if you want to crush your enemies without mercy

Congrats making it off of サンドマンズ島! I also got lost for a bit, it’s not easy to navigate

The end!

…or is it?
