Week 34

Sometimes I can’t help but compare this game to Trails in the Sky, since it’s the other long game club I’ve been participating in. It’s been discussed over there that the writers are kind of allergic to the idea of negative consequences. Meanwhile in Xenogears land, half the world’s population is mutated into horrible monsters, and then most people in general are killed off while the planet is terraformed into an inhospitable environment. Ha.

Isn’t it? Fei’s dad is wiseman, who is also グラーフ, who is also Fei’s self from another era, who wants to merge with his future self Id, who is also Fei. Fei and Elly are basically half this game’s cast by themselves.

I’ve said before that I liked the two of them together, but this is where Fei and Elly’s relationship gets weird. So… assuming Fei rescues Elly, he’s going to be with a woman who has all the memories of his mom, and also of the woman who tortured him when he was a kid? This is some wild, complicated version of the oedipus complex. And that’s on top of the original Elly being created specifically to be like the original Fei’s mother. What a train wreck :joy:

Separate, relevant note based on the same screenshots: Fei’s new gear looks like a funny porcupine.

On the language side, I was really proud of myself for being able to follow the explanations without trouble this week, up to the point where Bart starts talking about the operation to get into メルカバー. That’s when the technospeak started to get too heavy, or maybe I was just too tired by then :sweat_smile:

I haven’t played any Trails in the Sky but interesting point!
I like that distinction too, usually I notice it a lot with books, if an author is willing to sacrifice some of his heroes (Stephen King for example), too many of this heroes (George R.R. Martin for example), or it always ends with everyone being fine and a happy ending (Mary Higgings Klar for example)

Not much to add otherwise, more revelations that are more confusing but I’m so confused already that it doesn’t really matter anymore xD
Probably in the end, the point is that bad guys want to destroy the world, Fei wants to save the world and save Elly :woman_shrugging:

Turns out contact with an interdimensional being is bad for your mental health.

I wonder if Myan/Miang breaking constraints is a good…or a bad thing? Elly remembering her initial birth (in the Zohar? is that her corpse?) along with Myan’s must be super weird. But not as weird as remembering being Fei’s mother! And then Miang!mother and torturing him I bet!

Also: ANSWERS! So Zohar!Miang/Elly–>Cain & Gazel–>“Mother” clones Elly/Myan. And at the time Fei was the only survivor, but he was at the Zohar earlier which is what gave it the mother will in the first place…that was before it lost control on the ship right? That’s what I got form last week. But why does the “mother” look like the Captain’s daughter?? She didn’t look old enough to have kids, but maybe it was an older picture and that’s OG!Fei’s grandpa?

Wait, was the Abel that Cain killed the OG contact from the ship…?

New gears without the anima relics…if you could do this all along Tora…

Can…can humans recover from this level of devastation to both the earth and the population…? Most of them got eaten…
