Week 26

We got Emeralda/エメラダ! Her gear’s design has always been my favorite among the group. Even Billy’s totally unnecessary cape can’t beat it.

So I finally went back to キスレブ to check out the battler arena before going into Solaris, because I was interested in getting the aether doubler among other things. Did one fight, got 175 points. Then I checked the item prices.

On second thought, y’all can keep it…

So in the English version there’s a shop glitch to get the old store in Nisan, but I haven’t gotten far enough to test it in the Japanese version.

If you want to try it out, you save at the save point, reset the game, and it should boot up with the old shop selection and music. Once you leave the building it’ll reset. There are a couple YouTube videos on it.

Specifically it works at the the of this week after the ceremony. Assuming it works at all anyway.

Edit: opens up after the coronation ceremony. Cannot remember if that’s this or last week

Chapter 46
Got some good Gear upgrades on the ship! Had enough money for everyone thanks to the previous weeks with all the bosses fights.

Swimming in Gears was quite a fun experience! They did a good job with the mood with the image shifts and the music. Jumping around makes an awesome sound too.

Chapter 47
Upside down gravity in Solaris! Relieved that it turned around again. Technically it should not bother them but only the camera, they still have ground under their feet, a bit like people in Australia, I don’t think they are actually upside down… or are they??

Was not expecting Solaris to look like this at all. Very hive like. Not sure what I was expecting, maybe something like Shevat, though it would have been weird to have twice the same city.
Escaping the sentinels was fun (thanks to easy saving).

Tifa spotted?? FFVII came out one year before Xenogears, so not impossible..

Yep, he’s pretty busy though, dancing with naked hologram lady!

Then Solaris got even more surprising.
And some interesting plot reveals, with Fei being ラカン and remembering カレルレン…
Also what a house, Elly has.
Was a bit funny to me that her mom is called Medina, as there’s a famous pop singer with the same name in Denmark.

I don’t remember what my first impression of Solaris was but the high tech setting combined with the lighthearted, almost goofy music is still so off-putting! Not a bad thing since it’s meant to be an off-putting kind of place, though. Stuff like the kid at the item store whining about not being able to get a 天帝 doll/model is also pretty funny, considering we’ve only seen him appear in mysterious and vaguely ominous scenes. Between dialogue like that, the extreme oppression of the underclass, and people at the rally cheering to blatant propaganda, the game isn’t trying to be very subtle about what these people are like haha.

Fei making a scene at the rally feels like a classic case of protagonist losing brain cells to move the plot along, oi. Although I’d say it was worth it to get to see more of these little robot enforcers. I think it’s my first time seeing this kind of deliberate mix of kanji/katakana, the effect is very charming!

Oh yeah, the coronation ceremony was last week. Since we’re in Solaris as of the end of this week, if I’m remembering correctly that means (future spoiler) I can’t visit Nisan anymore. Maybe you could test it out instead

Chapter 50 ends when Fei is alone in the TV room. It would have been a great place to stop for dramatic effect…but the next save point is this one, 20 min later. I’ll need to look at next weeks remaining …
