Discussion Guidelines

Spoiler Courtesy

Please follow these rules to avoid inadvertent spoilers. Some folks are reading JoJo for the first time and have never watched the anime either. If you’re unsure whether something should have a spoiler tag, err on the side of using one.

  1. Any potential spoiler for the current week’s reading need only be covered by a spoiler tag. Predictions and conjecture made by somebody who has not read ahead still falls into this category.

  2. Any potential spoilers for external sources need to be covered by a spoiler tag and include a label (outside of the spoiler tag) of what might be spoiled. These include but are not limited to: other book club picks, other books, games, movies, anime, etc. I recommend also tagging the severity of the spoiler (for example, I may still look at minor spoilers for something that I don’t intend to read soon).

  3. Any information from later in the volume or series than the current week’s reading (including trigger warnings that haven’t yet manifested) needs to be hidden by spoiler tags and labeled as coming from later sections. For other Parts, please label the Part before the spoiler, for example “Well we know 2 [character] survives because they’re in a later Part”

Instructions for Spoiler Tags

Click the cog above the text box and use either the “Hide Details” or “Blur Spoiler” options. The text which says “This text will be hidden” should be replaced with what you are wishing to write. In the case of “Hide Details”, the section in the brackets that is labeled “Summary” can be replaced with whatever you like also (i.e, [details=”Chapter 1, Pg. 1”]).

Hide Details results in the dropdown box like below:

Example

This is an example of the “Hide Details” option.

The “Blur Spoiler” option will simply blur the text it surrounds.

Sorry for the delay! I had all the questions prepped last week, but I seem under the weather today

Chapter 17

It’s nice to see Erina back! Kinda funny how Speedwagon was basically the protagonist for this chapter, and how he just watched everything in secret

He wanted to be an emotional support for JoJo, but he gives it up temporarily after seeing Erina taking care of him, probably thinking it’d be nice to give the two of them time alone. I thought his face when running away was pretty funny

I’m guessing because Dio basically died (and was presumed to have died), and at the end of the chapter he’s reborn. It seems like if Wang Chan hadn’t come by, he wouldn’t have been able to just barely recover from the brink of death!

Chapter 17

I agree, plus it seems like she has a bigger personality at this point too.

Yep! Although idk if it’s that temporary. He was thinking that JoJo had nothing left in the world. Seeing that he has a friend means that JoJo won’t be totally alone. I suspect this kind nature is why Speedwagon was so popular on Ogre Street.

I can’t tell if it’s just a product of the 80s or if Araki referenced George Michael lol

I think you’re off to a great start. What is he reborn into? The easy answer is vampire, but it goes deeper than that. What’s the difference between Dio Brando and DIO? This reasoning might not be too clear yet and tbh it makes more sense with Part 3 of JoJo. If you get frustrated by the question, please feel free to drop it or revisit it much later.

Response with spoilers 3 So long as sunlight didn’t touch him, he would have survived, but in a weakened state.

We’re finally to the arc where JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure starts getting bizarre

Chapter 17

Maybe a coincidence? But wow that picture does look like Speedwagon in that panel

Oh yeah, I didn’t think about how it’s written differently! I guess the last name is gone because he’s now disconnected from old family connections? Like he’s no longer the adopted son of George, which he became thanks to Dario. And his goal is no longer to get the inheritance instead of Jonathan, since it’s way too late for that now. So now he’s just his own person who’s not really tied down by family anymore. But I’m sure there’s more to it that’ll become more clear later…

Araki often references real photos/people very frequently from fashion magazines so it’s totally possible. The people on the wiki who compile references recently got ahold of vogue archives and they’ve been finding so much.

Ding ding ding!! You’re right on the money, that’s baller. I think the further implication will become clearer in later chapters. If you want a hint of something fun to look for: Dio’s outfits are fun to analyze
