コートvsこと Pronunciation Nightmare in Duolingo

So, saying コートalone is fine, but if I try to combine our with any adjectives like colors it will spit out こと. And good luck with 私のコート. It always seems to spit out 私のこと.

I don’t know if it’s a pitch accent problem on my end or if the language recognition has some issue, but it’s really frustrating that this word is given me this much trouble to speak, at least according to the text to speech.

I’m literally letting a lesson sit right now to come and type this vent. I’m that frustrated. I could just type it, but I would like to have some kind of consistency with this stupid word.

It’s a bit hard to say what the issue might be without hearing you speak. I’ve used Duolingo a bit a long time ago, but never speaking to it, so I don’t have any familiarity with how good it is for that.

Is there a way you might be able to share yourself saying something?

I’ve never seen the audio input in Duolingo being particularly good. Quite the contrary.

@lisamariefan if it’s not a problem with you, you can share voice samples via https://vocaroo.com/ for people to compare.

Jk, it’s ok.

Yeah, I would like to believe it’s better in languages other than Japanese, but apparently by expectations bar is too high :joy:

It’s good on most things if your annunciation is clear.

It’s just that some words within a sentence are hard to get correct, even if they transcribe alone correctly.

Besides コート being a problem, I seem to really have issues with けんさん. なおみ also used to be a problem, but I’ve gotten better with it.

Really, first names in general seem kinda tricky to get to transcribe correctly.
