イギリス: is Wanikani wrong on purpose?

I’m just waiting for someone to say “why is it アメリカ人!!! There is more than one America it’s a continent how do Brazilians feel… blah blah blah.” As if every year Americans collectively vote to be called Americans.

It’s not a vote. They fight, every year. Each country fields a champion, last one standing earns the right to be called America for that year.

Trouble is, the US fields Chuck Norris every year, so they’ve never lost.

While I agree that nothing stops WK users from being just like any random collection of people from the general public, the forum is the best place left on the internet!
I would say, in my experience and opinion, though we are people of many kinds we are still generally a much better community than any other I know! <3

It’s well moderated. The thing is FB and Reddit and such have such little moderation that trolls infiltrate and it becomes a shithole. But yeah if you want a good community anywhere you need to have solid rules that benefit the group on the whole.

Yeah, they are good at keeping it civil and removing trolls.
Arguments and disagreements must be kept civil. I’ve seen trolls come by, but they never last =P
People are quick to report when it gets out of hand cause we want to have this safe space.
I’ve seen strong topics be discussed, especially places like the poll thread (and I guess this thread is also an example), where normally such a topic would go into heated debate which would always escalate, yet we are able to keep it civil (more or less) enough to stay friends.

The admins are doing a great job, I love this lill peace of heaven we have here. I get enough drama on FaceBook, I don’t want it here as well.

I mean, you have heard Scottish, Welsh and northern irish accents, right?

True and to follow up on

There are many, many British people who don’t speak in what you would consider a British accent. The British accent most non-British people think of is Received Pronunciation, or ‘BBC English’ which is rare to hear spoken by a real person.

There are plenty of people with well spoken British accents, which you’d probably clock immediately as British, but there are also people from Cornwall, or Lancashire, or Birmingham, or a hundred other places what have local accents and dialects. For a country that could fit into New York State, we have a wide dialectic range.

If you couldn’t tell, the POLL was sarcastic, esp. since you have to be a lifetime or admin to vote in it… long for an essay and short for a POLL?

Sarcasm aside, WK will never be a representative sample of the population at large, since you have to be interested in Japanese to bother creating an account to post here!

And the fact that people have a common interest, which bring people together. I don’t think there has been too much need for the mods to take harsher action. Although I don’t really use reddit anymore, there are still some great smaller subreddits, that kind of community is hard to find elsewhere.

But yeah, using r/all, the frontpage, or any of the popular subs is terrible.

I don’t think you need to rule with an iron fist to be a decent community, but just have rules and standards that are reinforced. I think this group does a lot of self policing too. Trolls are quickly weeded out. Everyone needs to participate in keeping the community safe.
