よつばと! Reading club

#102

It is, would be good if more people joined. :joy:

thanks fl0rm, yeah i know about that, and don’t really want to ship non-worksafe stuff anyway.

i think for australia even buying new works out cheaper than yen press translated copies, but it just sucks that yotsuba isn’t released digitally, like i completely stopped buying physical manga because it was so much easier to buy and download on a tablet than wait for shipping, and then you have to store the books afterwards…

anyway, i’ll look into the new ones for yotsuba because it is a great series and i guess i could always sell it on ebay once i finish reading it

I know I’ve been totally MIA on the discussion thread (I feel like I haven’t really had much to say), but I have been following along, and that’s the number one thing I like about having the reading club. It makes me do something, on a regular schedule, which is something I completely fail at doing otherwise. For that reason, if nothing else, I’d like to see it continue ^^ A month break is fine for me, though. I have other non-Japanese related things that I should realistically be focusing on for the next month anyway.

While I’ve appreciated the work everyone’s done on the reading packs, I think I agree that they may not be necessary at this point, especially if it feels like it’s just creating more work. As for writing practice…it’s not a bad idea, but I can’t guarantee that I’ll be doing much with it personally. My writing skills are even worse than my reading skills. Less than less than zero. :see_no_evil:

A break would be nice!

I’ll probably still have a bunch of grammar questions as we go forward, but that’s the beauty of this group.

#106

Yes, I’ve fallen way behind on Yotsuba now. The book sits sadly unopened on my desk. I have a new job (showing people round Tokyo!) and that is taking up all my time. I’m even falling behind a bit on my WK reviews. As for JLPT on July 1st, I don’t stand a chance now, I’m just way too busy!

But, when this current busy-ness dies down, I’ll be returning to Yotsuba (and the reading pack you guys so kindly created - - thank you so much!) with all my old enthusiasm. But just not just yet!

#107

I just ordered a copy of vol1-13
so i will be ready when the break finishes
i’ll try and read 1-3 in the mean time
i’ll probably rush though so will miss a lot of content :stuck_out_tongue:

#108

I just finished volume 13!! (waiting patiently until the end of the month for vol 14!)
anyway I’m happy to help out with q’s/vocab for vol.4 and on!

#109

Thank you! I can hardly imagine all the content that the manga covers with that many volumes. I wonder if Yotsuba gets old enough to go to school.

Based on the responses, it looks like we’ll take a break and resume in late May (weekend of the 19th/20th). We can maintain a 1/week schedule. Just in case, I’ll keep the vocab list up, but I expect that we’ll be taking a much more relaxed approach and use the thread for questions.

#110

Not sure if you want to know but the whole series only spans a few months! :grinning:

Hi Everyone,

I am planning to start reading Japanees text and came across this post.
It seems interesting, and the support is awesome. But i do have a question.

What is the best place to order the books? I live in The Netherlands and i have no idea where to get the books in Japanees from.

#112

I’m pretty sure this is covered in the opening post, but if not, surely the best place to start would be Amazon Japan?

#113

ありがとうmarcusp,
I have Found them and orderd them.

#114

That’s great! See you in the よつばと!discussion threads soon!

#115

Checking in again. We’re scheduled to start up again soon with Volume 4.

Who’s ready?

  • Start this weekend
  • Need more time
  • No opinion

0 voters

FYI, I’ve been blazing through the volumes and am at Volume 11 now, so other than a few clarification questions, I will primarily be moderating and answering questions.

Aaaargh, life is so busy the only Japanese I’m still doing is WK. I still haven’t finished the last few pages of volume 3. But I’m going to shove everything else aside as much as I can and get back down to study. So I vote for this weekend!

I don’t get it. Should we?

#120

Like the raws or something. :eyes:

#121

Raws? I’m sure I have no idea what you mean by that.
