No matter what you start with, it’s going to be difficult. It gets easier over time as you get used to seeing the same common grammar and vocabulary over and over. Unfortunately, it takes reading to get good at reading. _Yotsuba_ gets recommended often for beginners, but there are a lot of things that make it not the best choice. It’s not _bad_ to start off with, but you have to expect to be learning a lot more, which this thread helps out a lot with. If you want to want to hold off on reading a little until you get a bit more grammar and vocabulary in, I recommend checking out the next two books coming up in the [Absolute Beginner Book Club](https://community.wanikani.com/t/x/34698), _Ruri Dragon_ starting sometime in February, and then _Ookami-chan_ probably about three months later.
