That’s fair enough. We could also have a max at 10-11 weeks if that would make more sense. (then there are at least two options, ramp up towards the end or the club stops but people finish reading on their own, but that’s probably less satisfying)
I’m thinking that we should just run this one as planned, and collect the thoughts as we go / afterwards, to see if it was a good experience or not.
Has anyone actually said that this club taking a little longer is inconveniencing them though? Is it inconveniencing you? I don’t really understand what the problem is. Forcing folks to read faster than is comfortable just so that the club can move on faster (for unspecified reasons) doesn’t seem particularly reasonable.
I do agree that 13 weeks is definitely on the longer side for such a club. I think one of the issues here is that in the original poll in this thread the slowest option was one chapter/week for 13 weeks total (the one that was eventually chosen) while the “a bit faster” option immediately switched to two chapters/week as soon as week 2 for a total of 7 weeks which is too fast IMO.
I think we need something in between, like we had for 紡ぐ, like one chapter/week for the first 3/4 weeks at least and then maybe faster. But voting after a few weeks will achieve the same thing anyway, so I maintain that it’s the best approach.
I guess it is a bit annoying if you’re skipping over a book and have to wait a long time for a chance at a pick that you would like better. That said overall I’m in the same team as @Akashelia, unlike the IBC this club creates massive amounts of off-shoots given that it’s almost never one-and-done, so eventually we’re going to reach critical mass if we read one new manga every month… We’re not even halfway done on the very first manga we read here (Atelier) and I don’t even want to calculate how long it will take us to read all of 鋼の錬金術師…
Also the off-shoots mean that I won’t run out of manga to read in clubs either even if I don’t follow the new pick for some reason.
Right, and if even one person spoke up saying “I am not interested in this pick but would really like to participate in an IMC pick to help bridge the gap to the IBC” that would be one thing, but no one has? I’m all for trying to accommodate everyone, but without anyone actually verifiably being inconvenienced it seems a bit overkill? There are already so many clubs, past and present, it just doesn’t seem to me like we need to rush things for the sake of “more clubs”.
I think that’s fair. It could make for a nice contrast with 紡ぐ乙女と大正の月 and people can compare their experiences afterward.
For sure. Even I wouldn’t advocate for a 7 week pace for a higher difficulty 4-koma. In theory Bocchi is slightly easier than Tsumugu, but having a decent ramp up period is helpful.
The reason is that not everyone reads every book selected by a club, so making those people wait an incredibly long time isn’t fair to them. It’s the same reason clubs that read novels have page limits for nominations, which is so they don’t take too long. In that sense, having this take 13 weeks is “inconveniencing” me because I have to wait longer for the next pick. But like, in air quotes because I’m obviously not the target demographic of this club. I still voice my opinion in these situations in case others were thinking the same thing and were too timid to say anything, but certainly nothing should be changed just for my sake.
Aight, I’m in! I’m a first timer but I’ll stay on top of things so I should be able to keep the pace, if not I can always read more or catch up later
Whoops, forgot to post this yesterday, but, ah…
Less than a week to go! Until we decide to speed up, our very first reading is the longest on the schedule. To smooth your way into it, you might consider reading chapter 0, the four free-layout colour pages, this week.
レッツラ・ぼっち!
Thank god I found @Akashelia’s comment on Pitapi’s study log, cause I’m very intrigued now and joining everyone (I might give up halfway if it’s too difficult for me though)
Yay! Let us know how it goes!
Ask all the questions - we’ll be here to answer them for you.
In fact, sometimes I have a bad habit of just sounding out what I’m reading and moving on without actually understanding it, and people asking questions is what gets me to realise that.
Thank youu. I will!
Participating in these book clubs has made me notice the same thing. I miss a lot more than I realize when reading solo…
A lot of my solo reads are previous picks for this reason!
Not sure if anyone has already mentioned this, but apparently the first volume of this manga is available for free from the publisher! Might have to use a vpn to access it though
I found this from the video link @pembo attached!
Week two! Featuring single-cellular life!
Week three! Now that Bocchi has booked out the Budokan, how will she deal with her new-found fame? Or not.
I’ve just realised Nijika doesn’t have her Dorito in the manga
How does it look like? Never seen the anime, not sure if it’s a thing or a pet or what
