Game Systems / Tips

• Saving happens at the end of each day when you write in your diary.
• Remember that starting on day 2 you can pull out your bug net at any time (right trigger on PSP)!
• Registering the bugs (creating a 標本) can be unintuitive at first – First, this must be done in Boku’s room at the desk (it’s a good thing to do before bed!). Select the bug in your box, select 出す, pull it down and place it on the screen below. Then you use the needle, into the pink liquid, and finally into the bug. This removes it from the box, registers this specimen permanently, and gives you a little description.
• Try to interact with anything that looks interesting. There is a lot of flavor text and even many paths where Boku can hop to places that require pressing interact on them.
• Time passes when you transition between screens, so you don’t need to feel rushed within a location. When the day ends, Boku’s uncle will find you and take you home.

Boku no Spoilers (Please read)

It’s customary in these clubs to collapse or otherwise hide your in-depth explanations of what happened for the week. I would just like to also request that because this game features so much optional and non-linear content, that you use your best judgment for what might be worth hiding, and do your best to make it generally clear outside the tags what you’re discussing. For example, in my week 1 post I referenced locations (the hideout and the shed) where I think interesting things happened but I further spoiler tagged discussion of what happened within them in case anyone who hadn’t visited one yet wanted to save the surprise.

Day 20 (some family spoilers)

This day launches right into a big serious conversation. I like the setup of being a child happening to listen in on something not for you – very relatable. Poor Moe :\

I set out with the goal of catching the big fish only to find that it wasn’t there when I arrived, so I kept going to travel back to the beach for this whale bone I’ve heard so much about. Seeing how it just falls in front of you and isn’t really missable when it appears, I wonder why the game didn’t want me to have it on my first trip?

Ran back to the water in the evening, caught a few more of the more generic plentiful fish, still no big one More like 僕の陰謀, everyone in this game has it out for me. 嫌がらせにもほどがある . The day ended anticlimactically, but at least I got one thing accomplished.

Nice to see the new character pop in at night. And talking to the dad is pretty interesting, hearing him ruminate a bit on how kids view their parents now that he has a teenager. I love how so much of what happens in this game is kind of going over Boku’s little head.

Moe’s flat in bed again

Apparently おばさん is also a 美人.

We didn’t end up even talking about the bone; maybe other things take priority and bump it to another day?

Day 21 (spoilers again)

I tried going in the bathroom last night to the bath just to see if that’d trigger anything (tsk tsk Boku) but the woman just said she was in there and that was it. Well today Shirabe was making some accusations about me being too interested in her bathing and I imagine it’s because I did that

Talking to her afterwards outside Boku does that little kid insult in Japanese where you say the person’s mom has an outie belly button (it’s so weird…) and Shirabe immediately says she’ll tell her mom and he gets so scared lmao. Kids are funny. Speaking of Obasan she’s just staring into the sky today, talking about how good her vision is and the birds she can see. She’s my favorite now; she’s so weird.

Got another kite ready. Right now I want that fish more than anything… but again, no luck. Making me jealous seeing all the posts from people getting it early; I’m not sure when I need to come here. At least I got to fly my kite against the backdrop of a very pretty sunset.

Ok that nighttime bath scene is really good physical comedy, loved it. Definitely recommend if you’re reading this before playing to talk to Moe and go back downstairs for a talk with the aunt.

Honestly what I do during the days is starting to feel like going through the motions, but the family conversation stuff is picking up so much that I’m having a really good time seeing what happens with them in the mornings and nights. I think the game does a great job having Boku slowly warm up to them and see more of what’s going on in their lives.

A very productive day 22

Finally got around to remembering the sugar water I should’ve done ages ago.

Cute that the girls are making presents for the anniversary; I love the little joke with everyone using a different ちょう.

I don’t look at the flowers themselves every day, so I don’t know if this would’ve happened earlier, but it seems they have reached the end of their lifespan, so my daily work is over. Such is life. At least I ordered another kite!

Amusing choices for this question, heh. No simple sweet answer for someone you like spending time with. I ended up picking the 美人 because Boku seems really into the new lady around here so it feels in character for him right now. It’s ok, the uncle tells you about the importance of personality. Today Boku learned an important lesson.

Walking down the main path from the bridge I came across a snake, which the uncle showed up and chased off Going back through I found its skin, too.

Ok all kinds of things are happening, one step further towards the bee path and that ghost?? showed up and wanted my sugar water I just made. I’m starting to think it’s dangerous out here.

Anyway was headed this way for the big tree, which I put my sugar water on. Figured while I’ve come this far I might as well visit the tent, and on the way Boku saw some トンボ and thought about how autumn is coming and he’ll be going home soon. Such an eventful day, every few screens it’s showing me something.

Saori told me an interesting story and I absolutely love the visual presentation on it, check it out if you can! And she gave me the photo her camera took, lol.

In the end the tree gave me a decent looking beetle. I tried running in the direction of the big fish’s pond but as expected I got stopped halfway through.

Their little party for dinner is super cute. Just don’t transition the camera angles and notice that the gifts disappeared like I did

Had a nice chat with Moe in her room about valuable things too; she’s a sweet girl. I trust that she’ll be ok in the end.

Boku’s art is so good.

Somewhat less productive day 23

Shirabe talking about liking kite flying makes me want to invite her! Even if it’s only, uhh, because she’s imagining getting pulled away into the sky by the kite. Meanwhile the aunt let me know there’s only one week of ぼくのなつやすみ (she says it exactly as that) left, but she doesn’t know we actually have 2 weeks.

I was starting to develop a Moby Dick relationship with this big fish, ended up going back and forth between screens several times because it changes the fish spawns, but I finally caught a really big one Boku struggled with for a bit and celebrated getting.

Went to the hideout and they also really like the camping girl. I believe they had some new tips about special beetles and also said if I won they might go get new stronger competitors? This bug I brought is good again, did a quick 3 games and beat all the champ ones. No idea if there’s anything more to be done to make them think I’m strong and do what they mentioned? Grabbed another new beetle, small one, then I had to be done for the day.

I gotta remember tomorrow is kite pickup day, I think. The uncle mentioned heating up the pottery kiln so maybe I can be there to see that. He’s vague about when but I’m guessing tomorrow. Need to keep that in mind between the week break here…

There’s also talk of treasure, I didn’t feel like we got many specifics on where, but I might have missed a word or two.

Caught up!

Day 20

萌 had a big scene in the morning where it seems like she’s decided she doesn’t want to continue school and has lost motivation essentially. Poor 萌.
She didn’t seem to be in her room today - I wanted to go and find her, but wasn’t able to before the evening
Met the ghost dog again on the way to the forest:

Seems like it likes sweet things because it reacted to ボク’s sugar water
萌 was back in the evening, and 沙織 came for a bath

Day 21

詩 called ボク a pervert this morning lol
New kite day, went and picked up from おじさん this morning
萌 was still depressed in bed
I went to visit 沙織 and heard her story about getting lost in the mountains. She was saved by a mystery wolf, and it does seem to be the same as the ghost dog we’re seeing
Found a strong-looking beetle - will need to try that the next day
Went to fly my kite at the top of the hill and got to the proper height, but didn’t get back in time to order a new one
萌 and ボク took a bath together, where 萌 told ボク the reason she’s feeling down, but then ボク passed out due to being in the hot water for too long. Weird cutscene followed
Also found one of these today - I just wonder when they cry?

Day 22

Went to go try out the new beetle and it was destroying the competition (強い level), until the others brought out a beetle that was the same type of Stand as mine, which promptly beat me. None of my other beetles could handle it either. I did trade for a king ノコギリクワガタ though - seems like victories raise the value of your beetles
Went to chat to 沙織 and ボク thought of putting down some sugar water in front of the camera, so I went and did that. Will check back tomorrow
萌 mentioned that her teacher had hidden something during the war in the mountains. Maybe that’s what’s down the mountain path?

Day 23

Met a snake on the way to check out the camera
When I did get to the camera, the sugar water had vanished
沙織 didn’t mention any new pictures, but I think they take a bit to develop so I’ll have to check back again
I went to the cave at the pond and inspected the book again - turns out you can pick it up now! ボク seems to think it’s the treasure. Went back to tell 萌 but she wasn’t in the mood. In the evening she told me to bring it to her tomorrow so that’s what I’ll do

There’s so many threads to pull on at this stage in the game, yeah. It’s quite understated too, I like that you have to seek out the things you want to engage with and if you don’t you can miss bits

• The parents had a serious chat with Moe
• The flowers wilted
• found a beetle with a snozz
• caught a fish
• wasn’t really sure what to do the rest of the day so I did some beetle sumo
• the tent lady came over in the evening
• Moe was flopped on her bed again
  
  

Day 21

• Got my new kite
• Boku stopped at the waterfall pond to contemplate autumn coming soon as foretold by the presence of many dragonflies
• Tent lady told me a story
• Saw another “UFO” on the hill
• Reached the max height of new kite
• Boku took a bath with Moe, turned red when she said her heart was broken and then passed out? That was weird lol
  
  
  
  
  

Day 22

• Moe and Shi were making patchwork I think
• Apparently I got sugar water and it looks exactly like a yakult!
• I can’t seem to order another kite. Two of them that I have have the swirly maru thing in red and orange but one only has red, idk what that means
• Talked to uncle and he asked what kind of person I want to marry lmao, I said rich
• Found a snake uncle scared it away. Got the snake skin
• Found the ghost dog by the tired, it seemed to like my sugar water. I’ll try start making sure I have that each day in case it appears again
• Went to see saori who told me to look in the tent, lots of books and stuff. Also I cannot for the life of me remember her name even when I check the guide so I’m just gonna call her saoirse She gave me a photo
• Went to fly the other kite, I have a feeling I had the wrong one selected before (I did)
  
  

Day 23

• Ordered the next kite, I went for the fish
• put sugar water on a bug tree! I wonder if this runs out or you have it forever
• Went to see saoirse, she gave Boku a kiss on the head and gave him the photo of him pulling a funny face at the camera, he had the idea to set a trap for the ghost dog so I put the sugar water there. Some crazy bongos and pots and pans music started playing when I did that, it was great
• Aunt gave me the pic of Boku in the sunflowers

This is something that can happen! Taking a prolonged bath in hot water can cause your blood vessels to dilate, which drops your blood pressure which can lead to you fainting

Started the week

day 20 (27 min)

• Moe thinks about her future and doesn’t want to continue with schooling. Discusses it with her parents in the morning
• The kite will be done tomorrow so I went to the beach ones more
• On the way I did some sumo and won the King sumo again
• Caught some new bugs. One king red sumo champion bug I want to use next time
• Saori came to bathe at the house in the evening
• Moe is down again and flopping on the bed after the happening this morning
  
  

day 21 (30 min)

• Shirabe wrongly accuses me of being echi
• I got my new bird kite
• Met the ghost dog again which licks the sugar water
• Flew the new kite, it was actually slightly difficult
  
  
• Realized autumn is starting because of the tonbos
• Saori told me her childhood story when she got lost and a wolf howl helped her to escape the situation
• She also gave me my picture from her contraption
• I caught some new tonbos in line with what boku was saying
• Used the bees to teleport back
• Took the bath with Moe like you all as well

day 22 (27 min)

• Uncle told us it is their wedding day today
• I ordered by new kite from uncle after telling him I want to marry an older lady, and he told me aunt is a year older than him
  
  
• Did some bug sumo against the boys but lost against the king beetle
• The house is nicely decorated for the wedding day
• We had a big sushi feast for dinner and the girls made presents for the parents
• Uncle told us the teacher buried some treasure at the mountain during the war. I definitely want to find the treasure now.

• Found a snake on the way to the jizos and uncle saved me
  
  
• Took a stupid pose for the camera of Saori this time
• Saori and I talked about the snake incident which apparently shirabe told her about, she then also kissed me on the forehead
• I finally could pick up the mystery book in the cave because Boku was reminded about the teachers treasure
• I FINALLY managed to jump over the fire
• Sadly I couldn’t talk to anyone about the book. Only Moe had some option, but she said she’s too tired and only wants to talk tomorrow about it
• Apparently the kiss on the forehead by Saori was a proposal in Bokus mind.
