🌻 ぼくのなつやすみ / Boku no Natsuyasumi (Game Club) - Week 1

Oh nice, in the end you’ve pretty much caught up to doing everything I did I think, just some of it on different days. I noticed the ラヂオ体操 card at the start of the game but didn’t look back for stamps; that’s so cute.

Glad to see my hour and a half guess is proving to hold up for people.

Day 1

First day seems pretty straightforward, took a moment to get used to the controls and mostly explored the house a bit. I can’t quite keep up at 100% with the dialogue at spoken speed but that’s going to be some good listening practice and I’m not going to obsess over perfectly reading everything.
(Didn’t quite figure out how to stop the dialogue from auto advancing, trying any button combination during the Introductory cutscene but it didn’t seem to work? Eh, doesn’t really matter.)
Good to know that time basically passes based on the number of screens one transitions, that put less pressure on things!
Cute how you have to press interact to do little things like jumping the steps out of the house, it adds a little childish charm to it.
After dinner I had a chat with the family, had some 麦茶, took a bath and brushed my teeth. Will actually start to explore more in Day 2!

Day 2

As I expected, I spent most of the day running around catching bugs, gotta catch’em all. I also managed to explore quite a lot! I met the uncle working in the hut, the cousin (she doesn’t like me : ( ), and I wonder if you can feed the cow and chickens in the following days.
They have a nice little farm going. I also saw the bees that Boku understandably didn’t want to approach, I wonder if you have to knock the hive away to pass or something?
Also saw the birdwatcher guy and heard about the スイカ thieves from my uncle at dinner.
I found a pond but since I didn’t get the fishing rod Boku just drank some water (with the same cute cutscene in the opening) and then he complained that it was cold ahah.
Registered all the bugs before ending the day, it does feel a bit bad that you are killing the bugs to do it : (
I also watered the flowers, multiple times actually… But most importantly of all, I pet the dog!!

This is what I plan to do too! I’m treating it like being at some relative’s house outside the country as a kid and you don’t quite speak the language… Which is actually how most of my very early summer went with half the family split between two different countries!
I find it hilarious that the diary says you did nothing… I guess the game assumes you will focus each day on something in particular (bug catching, fishing, etc), so if you do a little bit of everything or mostly explore it puts a generic description?

For the bug net, you should have it from the start after checking the bug catching set on your desk, on PSP you press R1 to hold it and then run around swinging it with :hollow_red_circle:.

EDIT:

Day 3

Explored a bit more, am up to 15 bugs, helped gather corn (it took a moment to understand where I actually had to click). Did not find the fishing rod so I could not fish, but I met the 先生. Kinda wasted the question by asking him how to catch bugs and he simply told me how to use the bug net but eh.
After dinner I did find the fishing pole thanks to uncle reminding me where it was, so I will definitely go fishing next week!
Playtime was exactly 1 hour and 23 minutes, so pretty much on the spot with others.
I’m taking it pretty casually without worrying about looking up every single word, it’s been fun! Great listening practice for sure. (And great practice to read faster before the text disappears)
Still am not quite sure what the difference for the two bug cages is, is it simply a reserve one?
Boku was pretty mean telling the cousin that her clarinet playing sucked lol. I wonder if we will hear her improve during our summer vacation.
I think I got a diary entry not shared by anyone else on Day 3?
Really curious to see how many variations there are.
I do find it pretty funny how come sundown the uncle is magically able to find us wherever we are.

WAHHHHHHHHH THIS GAME IS SO CUTE AND CHARMING :sob:

My brother helped me get my copy up and running! I love this game already :'))

The opening bit was lovely and cute. I understood most of it, but not completely so I’m definitely going to go back and watch the youtube video (so helpfully linked, thank you) to relisten. The voice acting is also so good and cute! I knew others had already said it was good, but after hearing it for the first time, I definitely agree

My Day 1

I’m sure a lot of others experience of the first day was the same. I jumped on the bed an extra time haha, looked out the window, looked around my room. When I left my room I tried to enter the older sisters room, but once I saw the sign on the door I was like “ah” haha

I walked outside, talked to the mom, then talked to the younger sister 詩, and then checked out the cows and chickens. I think I walked around a little more, but not much before dinner time. We ate, I checked out my bug collection set, and went to bed!

My Day 2

After the ラジオ体操 we had breakfast, and the mom asked me if I like flowers… I do, but they’re not my favorite, but I didn’t want to be rude and say no :joy: So I said yes, and then she told me what my daily task will be, and told me very quickly. I was like ahhh to the left of the house and flowers and water? Okay? With that I ran to try to find this task, I thought it was fetching water for some reason :sob: lol
I accidentally turned the water on the flowers, but at the time still didn’t realize that that was what I was supposed to do (at… at least I think )

I kept running around to try to find what I was supposed to do, and went back to the same place as before to talk to 詩. She was stand-offish and cute again haha, and keeps tells me 「教えない!!…うそ」hahaha, she’s cute. Hopefully we will get closer over the course of this month and then she will tell me more things :head_shaking_vertically:
I said hi to the chickens and cows again, and then started wandering around. I jumped over to a bridge, wandered there, wandered back the way I came, then back the same way again hahaha. But I found a building with 茶碗 and stuff outside. And it was the pottery shop! The dad talked about lighting the kiln at the end of the month, so I hope I get to do that hehe.
Then I found the 秘密基地!There was two pieces of moldy bread :sob: Dawg, whoever these kids are, I hope they’re not eating that stuff
Then I kept going up from there, and found a fishing spot (couldn’t fish tho? I know other people have discussed that here so I’ll have to go back through the posts. Or maybe it’s a day 3 thing), and then I found the spot that needs a bridge, and ボク thinks about chopping the tree down to make one… I wonder how I will do that
Ah! It has also been mentioned to me twice that you can only go to the mountain area during the day, and not later in the day. So I will have to go exploring there as well hehe

By that point the dad found me and said it was time to come home! The dad said there have been watermelon thieves, and asked me to tell him if I saw anything. But I kept silent about the 秘密基地 and the watermelon I found there!! Why did I not speak up  Hahaha, oh! But it is interesting too that sometimes ボク narrates from the future! I wonder if there’s a reason? If it’s cause the game came out in 2000 but takes place in 1975?
Well, after dinner when I talked to the dad, and he said that he also stole stuff when he was young lol, and he tried to downplay it, but ボク was like “NUH UH, that was 犯罪 :head_shaking_vertically:” hahaha
I talked to 詩 again at the TV, and tried again to talk to the older sister, but the door was still locked. Then I took note of all of the bugs I had caught and read the little passage on each of them. I spent most of my time today catching bugs! Looking forward to the next day~

I usually only game on the weekend so I’ll be famously late every week haha. Playing on Sunday feels pretty perfect for a game like this.

I mostly ran around catching bugs lol. I didn’t know how to fish. I’ll figure it out next week.

Day 3

I found the “mysterious” kid as Boku wrote in his journal. My understanding is pretty hit or miss, I didn’t actually realize what was being asked of me and found the corn fields by accident. Trying to pick up all the corn took way too long lol.

It’s a cute game so far. I’m like waoo I’m in the 70’s.

I’m coming into this late! I tried playing this a while ago, but couldn’t really follow along. I suspect now will be slight easier, but largely the same. Playing with people is always better though!

I finished day three!!

Day 3

I had already found the little corn field on day 2, so I was happy to be able to do something with it today!

I got the fishing pole from the side door, and it was my first time using that door and going to that little area.

I tried to speak to the little sister again, I’m determined for her to like me!! :flexed_biceps: :face_with_steam_from_nose:

I love how theyre like 「さあボクくん頑張って」and then just watch me slowly turning in place and then moving to pick all the corn… without helping me even a little lol

I went left at the jizo statues instead this time, and found the beehive. I wanted to see if I could catch them in my net!! But it wouldn’t let me  Why can’t I just do the good ol’ Animal Crossing poke and run away fast method?? Haha

I caught 4 fish! Two ヤマメ’s and two ニジマス’s!! There’s not really anything extra you have to do to log them right?
And then the Uncle came and took me to dinner

「いいなあ、いいなあ。みたいなあ、みたいなあ」Boku is so cute haha

Ahh, the older sister was playing the clarinet!! I thought it was just background music, that was a cute surprise hehe
BUT BOKU, 「へたくそ」??? HOW RUDE, I thought her playing sounded lovely :face_with_steam_from_nose:

LOOK HE’S SO CUTE!!!

I also realized you can listen to the TV!! I swear the TV announcer sounded like the one of the narrators in Gundam lol

I also realized there was another room (the one with the altar) that I hadn’t been to.

Then I went outside for a little bit, but the uncle came out and made me end my day? At first I thought he was mad at me for going too far from the house. But I don’t think I did, and I think I just maybe spent to long wandering around! I didn’t get to log any of my bugs, so hopefully they’ll still be in my basket  I was also curious to see if I could try seeing the older sister’s room since she was playing the clarinet!! But oh well

Differences from Others (All 3 Days)

Ah, I didn’t encounter him at all! I didn’t encounter anyone other than the family now that I think about it

Oh my goodness! I didn’t get that, that’s so sad! Hopefully Boku’s conscience won’t weigh him down too much haha

Dang, you did meet with quite a few NPCs!! I wonder if they’re all only in the PSP version?? (I’m playing PS1 ver) Or maybe I just didn’t bump into them at the perfect time

Thanks to everyone else for sharing their end day logs!! I wonder if they’ll get more varied as the game goes on
