Ok, I think what I’ve translated is actually Page 13, given the comments above, but my ebook is telling me its P12…
The first sentence for me is this one:
そこで、海苔を外側ではなく、ご飯の内側に入れて舞い立ち、途端に大人気になりました。
If I’m ahead, I won’t post translations until I see other do the same.
It sounds more like
Since the old days, Vinegar is often mixed with Rice to make it last longer for eating.
I think f^_^;

So with all your comments, I would be something like:
それぞれの 国で、その このみに 会うように、新しい おすじも たくさん 考えだれています。
Each country has invented many new “sushi” to suit their tastes

Yes, no probs, that sentence and the next are both on page 12. I’m impressed with the way you’ve converted it all to kanji and really want to spend time studying that! Thank you! (But, the problem with running on Japanese time from Japan is that just as the thread gets interesting, I have to go to bed! lol!)

The middle part in kanji form should be 巻いたら (tara form of 巻く), not 舞い立ち

Second phrase is
たとえば のりまきは、見た目が もっ黒なため、 アメリカでは あまり 人気が ありませんでした。
and I think it means something like
For example norimaki was not very popular in America because of its black appearance.
I think?

Yep, I think studying the vocab in its kanji form, (assuming i’ve got it right) straight out of the gate is probably best! Get used to seeing them as soon as.
Ok here we go. Page 12:
そこで、海苔を外側ではなく、ご飯の内側に入れて巻いたら、途端に大人気になりました。
There, Sushi with the seaweed on the inside rolled in rice soon became very popular. (Needs some major rephrasing).
それが「カリフォルニアロール」呼ばれるお寿司です。
This is known as the ‘California Roll’.

I assume the 「そこで」 is referring to America from the previous sentences.

「海苔を外側ではなく…」 (のりを外がわではなく) - '(Instead of)? Seaweed on the outside’.
I don’t actually know what the なく is indicating, but just context is making me guess it’s something like ‘instead of’, as it’s talking about the seaweed being on the inside and not the outside.

I didn’t know that 呼ばれる 「よばれる」meant ‘referred to’, ‘called’, ‘known as’.
