I forgot to ask this earlier but I was curious about the use って in the waterfall sentence. Tae Kim basically says it can be a casual form of は but are there any cases where when using a casual form that って couldn’t be a substitute for は or are they always interchangeable when used as a topic particle?
って also serves as the casual form of the quotation marker と.

I’m in as well. I had the option to order it from a seller in the US for $40 plus shipping, but I decided to shell out the $15 to have it shipped from the island. I’ll likely be a couple days late. Wish I saw this thread earlier.

So the last sentence on the front flap of the dust jacket cover:
思わず「へ～っ！」と なる、せかいの ふしぎを さがしに 行こう
Would this be something like:
Let’s go in search of the wonders of the world and become unintentionally surprised.
Or maybe something like:
Let’s go in search of the wonders of the world to result in spontaneously expressing surprise.

Who did you order from? Amazon Japan has it in stock and probably can get it to you before the 1st.
I did order it from Amazon Japan but as I live in a country that doesn’t really use credit cards, I had to register for a virtual one (Which I created for WaniKani first and foremost)
Apparently the free one has a limit and I have to verify myself before I can properly use it. Which take a couple of business days…
Quite a bummer, as I also ordered the Genki II workbook and textbook. Not sure how I should study now except for WaniKani…

On the first we start at page 10. The dust cover, etc. are things that marcusp are fine to discuss now until then.
All my posts are purely about the cover not the actual book contents.

I love your approach MacOneill, and I appreciate everyone’s iron patience in holding off until the 1st before discussions start, but yes, on the 1st we start on page 10, at the body of the book, meaning the cover and the inside cover etc are free to be discussed now. (Although the long list of contents is best left until we do each chapter themselves). Personally, I can’t be bothered to read the blurb on the inside cover, I never do with English books, but athomasm is keen to get started and that is great!

Same here, just got back from travelling abroad and saw this thread. I definitely want to join in on the discussion and reading, I just ordered the book from Amazon JP, and it’s supposed to get here end of next week sometime (Hopefully), so I might join in a bit late as well.
Can’t wait to start reading my first japanese book 
I’m a little over halfway through Minna no Nihongo, hope that will be sufficient for this book? The rest will be learning on the fly I guess.

This will be my first book. Running solely on WK and Tae Kim. Just signed up to Satori, so hopefully that will help.

I just got to level 10 and it was always my goal to start reading material around then. Purchased from ebookjapan as AmazonJP was being awkward. Looking forward to struggling along with the rest of you! Need to read more of the Tae Kim book since my only grammar comes from my weekly Japanese lessons, and is still very basic.

Also at some point, definitely check out this grammar dictionary. It’s a good extra reference, too. You can find some good deals on used copies if you look around. I got all 3 for about $80 used and they essentially look brand new.
